This job will provide an opportunity to work on conventional, unique, and complex projects for IDOT, county highway departments, local public agencies/municipalities and more, involving a variety of surveying projects, working, and collaborating with the CEC Highway and Structure Teams. The Surveying Team provides services on our in-house projects, as well as for developers and governmental agencies and other engineering firms
Responsibilities include:
(Working under the supervision of a senior level licensed land surveyor)
- Perform route surveying and layout required for engineering design and construction and complete all related computations necessary to complete said tasks.
- Perform boundary surveying, document research, and boundary analysis needed for right of way acquisition, ALTA surveys, private land development, and related work.
- Prepare plats of survey, right-of-way plats and plans, parcel descriptions, and related surveying documents.
- Work and coordinate with the CEC Highway and Structure Teams, as required.
- Coordinate and communicate with clients, technicians, engineers, sub-consultants, and contractors.
Other possible duties (working under a Project Manager in construction observation), if you are interested, may include:
- Field-required concrete or asphalt testing
- Documenting material reports, test results
- Maintaining daily log of inspections
- Reviewing/preparing pay estimates
Qualifications
Four-year baccalaureate degree in Land Surveying from an accredited college or university program; or Four-year baccalaureate degree in Civil Engineering or a related science, including at least 24 semester hours of land surveying courses from an IDFPR approved curriculum of an accredited institution.
- Passed the FS/FE exam(s) or will be taking the FE/FS within 6 months of hire.
- 0-4 years of work experience on roadway projects
- Experience with governmental agencies within the State of Illinois is desired, but not required.
- Valid driver’s license with safe driving record.
Skills
- Excellent computer and communication skills
- Experience with Microstation/Power Geopak/Inroads (OpenRoads Designer) and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D; or willingness to train/learn is also acceptable.
