The Role
We are looking for a self-motivated individual with strong management skills to work on our team as a Director of Claims for North Carolina, Virginia and Pennsylvania. In this role, you will report to the Vice President of Claims and be responsible for the supervision of senior claims examiners and claims examiners, including, but not limited to, reviewing files, providing input on strategy for case handling and negotiating, attending Claims Review Committee meetings and various monthly manager meetings, providing input on employee development and succession planning.
Key Result Areas
- Handle a reduced caseload of select cases
- Audit files and provide guidance to staff consistent with best practices, claims handling, litigation, and billing guidelines
- Analyze coverage issues and coordinate interaction with coverage counsel
- Assure direct reports perform timely reserving of files
- Assist direct reports with negotiation strategy
- Attend and participate in Claims Review Committee meetings to provide strategy on claims file management
- Monitor examiner caseloads to ensure adequate staffing
- Complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports regarding goals and performance at review time and when potential issues are identified
- Up to 25% travel (some overnight) is anticipated for this position

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree and/or JD with a minimum of 10 years of claims and/or medical malpractice defense experience
- Must obtain applicable adjusters license(s) as required by state within three months of start date
- Prior supervisory experience preferred
