What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIS Coordinator position at Currituck County?
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, planning, geography, engineering, or related field and a minimum of five years experience with graphic information system design and experience with Geographic Information Systems; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision, performs highly technical, analytical and needs assessment work in the development, maintenance, and operation of the County’s enterprise GIS network and database. Creates, maintains, and produces geographic and spatial data in both a digital computerized database system and hardcopy format for the entire county organization. Formulates and initiates all aspects of GIS work. Consults with county departments and agencies to determine their needs for GIS, suggests direction and provides training options and support. Trains personnel from other departments in the use of the GIS system and network. Writes specialized databases and links them to the GIS system to produce reports and maps for departments and agencies. Reports to the Information Technology Services Director.
SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENT: Must have a valid driver’s license. Criminal background check and drug screen required of finalist applicants.
