Staff Accountant

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the Controller, the Staff Accountant will assist with maintenance of accounting worksheet sub-ledgers such as: fixed assets; restricted funds, prepaid accounts; non patient accounts receivable; bank reconciliations; and other sub-ledgers as necessary. The Staff Accountant will assist with various monthly, quarterly, annual and as needed reporting. The major functions include assisting the Controller in maintaining the accounting records of the Health District. Staff Accountant will also serve as a back-up Accounts Payable Specialist.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Daily: reconcile cash journal sheets.

Monthly: Complete all cash account reconciliations, update fixed asset ledger, prepaid worksheets along with other miscellaneous balance sheet accounts & reconcile to the GL; run provider and RVU reports.

Annually at year end: assist with the preparation of end of year audit materials; assist with end of year cost report materials; and assist with Community Benefit report materials.

Annually: assist with the preparation of the annual budget

Assist with miscellaneous CPSI projects at the request of the Controller or Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Performs other duties as assigned or requested to support the overall needs of the department, and in accordance with Curry Health Network’s Mission, Vision and Shared Values.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience

A Bachelor’s degree in accounting is preferred.  Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

A minimum of 5 years accounting experience required; experience in the medical field preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

A working knowledge of basic computer applications, including MS Word and Outlook are required; intermediate to advanced experience with MS Excel is required.

Knowledge of basic accounting principles and methodologies is required.

Must possess a high level of organizational skills; must be extremely detail oriented.

Ability to work independently and adapt to an evolving environment is required.

Accuracy and effective time management skills are required.

Must possess effective interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work well within a team environment.
