​​Role and Responsibilities​ 

  • Interact daily and with Project Manager and to notify/be notified or important repairs. 
  • Perform daily inspections of all equipment to troubleshoot any issues. 
  • Perform daily maintenance of all equipment. 
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment. 
  • Keep shop clean, neat, and organized on a daily basis. 
  • Keep repair vehicle, clean, neat, and organized on a daily basis. 
  • Make and create inventory of all parts and supplies required for daily operations for equipment. 
  • Keep a rolling inventory of all tools at the shop and in the repair truck.  
  • Attendance at work is an essential function of this position. 
  • Perform daily inspections of the shop and fuel tanks. 
  • Ensure all safeguards are on all of our equipment.  
  • Ensure any hazardous chemicals that are spilled at the shop are cleaned and disposed of properly. 
  • Maintain a daily log/hot list of what has been repaired and what needs to be repaired and submit to Project Manager at the close of each business day. 
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, walk, and carry equipment that weighs over 35 pounds for extended periods of times 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and education requirements 

  • Graduation from High School or GED equivalent and a minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience in a related field 
  • Two (2) years experience as a mechanic 

Preferred Knowledge 

  • Knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions 
  • Extensive knowledge of working equipment, materials and supplies used in landscaping contracts 
  • Knowledge of proper hazardous chemical disposal 

Preferred Skills 

  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely 
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships at different levels 
  • Decision making skills 
  • Problem solving skills 

Physical Demands 

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic position may be a physically demanding position.  While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to reach with hands and arms.  The incumbent is frequently required use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects tools or controls.  The incumbent must spend the entire time at work standing, walking, lifting heavy objects, operating medium-weight lawn care equipment. The incumbent is required to do a great deal of stretching and bending, often in awkward positions. The incumbent must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 70 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.  

Environmental Demands 

The incumbent will be exposed to outdoor elements and may have to work in extreme heat. The incumbent may be exposed to loud noises for extended periods.
