What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at CWS?
Reporting to our Corporate Finance Supervisor, and having visibility to our Executive Team, our Senior Accountant is responsible for preparing accounting information to assist in producing financial statements in in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This position ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating and entering transactions, and assists with external audits, special projects, and process improvements for error-free accounting records and reports.
Job Responsibilities:
- Balances and reconciles asset, liability and expense accounts to the general ledger for the purpose of completing month and year-end close
- Analyzes account activity, reconciles accounts, and makes adjusting entries from approved budgets
- Oversees daily cash activity and reporting. Reconciles cash and investment accounts to bank statements
- Provides technical advice and support to staff and provides advice on complex accounting matters to all departments
- Researches, analyzes, and uses independent judgment in a variety of daily and non-routine decisions
- Prepares and assists in preparation of financial and administrative reports for planning purposes
- Maintains accounting asset records and prepares book and tax depreciation calculations. Tracks construction in progress accounts and capitalizes upon completion
- Oversees all accounting activity for Affiliates of CWS. Prepares and analyzes associated financial reports
- Assists with annual budget
- Assists with audit preparation
- Facilitates the preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns by collecting or preparing supporting schedules and documents as required
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor Degree in Accounting
- Five years of work experience in the area of accounting
- Must be capable of producing all customary financial statements
- Must possess a demonstrated knowledge of general accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Excellent attention to detail and follow-up skills
- Knowledge of Friedman and/or AS400 systems helpful
- Must maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
