What are the responsibilities and job description for the Police Officer position at Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District?

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be a U.S. Citizen.

2. High school diploma or certified GED required.

3. Must hold a valid Peace Officer License from the Texas Commission On Law Enforcement.

4. Consideration will not be given to a TCOLE license or license from another state with a Dishonorable Discharge or the equivalent notation from previous law enforcement jobs.

5. Applicants with a General Discharge from TCOLE, or the equivalent notation from a law enforcement job in another state, must provide a detailed explanation of the circumstances surrounding the discharge. Consideration will be on a case-by-case basis.

6. Must have a valid Texas Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

7. Must meet requirements specified in TAC, Title 37, Part 7, Chapter 217, Rule 217.1 regarding criminal history.

8. Two years of successful law enforcement experience as a commissioned peace officer preferred.

9. Two or more years of college or advanced training preferred.

10.Must be able to work day, evening and night shifts with varied days off.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

260 Days


SALARY/PAYGRADE:

$25.39/HP5

Salary (based on verifiable job-related experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year 2022-2023

  • Additional $0.19/hr. will be added to salary for equipment stipend


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Must meet all posted qualifications.

2. Enforce applicable Board policy.

3. Investigate assigned criminal complaints.

4. Assist in the protection of students, staff and District property.

5. Serve as a law enforcement resource to students and District personnel.

6. Provide a general and consistent adult and law enforcement presence at critical locations on District facilities.

7. Provide a roving patrol of District assets when not assigned to a specific task.

8. Respond to calls for service during and after regular school hours and is subject to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

9. Respond to civil disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, fire, etc.

10.Inform the Chief of Police of all conditions that affect the safety and security of students, staff and District property.

11.Patrol assigned campus(es) and respond to all calls from local school principals or designees regarding crisis situations.

12.Assist staff with after-hour functions upon request.

13.Enforce all laws of both felony and misdemeanor degree of federal, state or local origin.

14.Investigate motor vehicle traffic accidents and stop and identify suspicious persons and/or vehicles.

15.Assist the Transportation Department with problem bus stop areas and/or chronic disruptions on school buses upon request.

16.Fulfill telecommunication duties when necessary.

17.Write effective legal incident reports, collect evidence as necessary for supporting criminal investigations and apprehend offenders.

18.Perform other duties as assigned.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Tools/Equipment Used: district vehicle, firearms, handcuffs, two-way radio, alarm system and other security equipment, fire extinguisher, and standard office equipment including computer and peripherals.

Posture: prolonged sitting and standing.

Motion: strenuous walking, running, and climbing; frequent keyboarding/mouse, prolonged driving.

Lifting: moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds); 10-50 pounds frequently; 50-100 pounds occasionally.

Environment: work is performed indoors, in a vehicle, and outdoors; frequent district-wide travel; employee may be exposed to inclement weather, noise, dirt, dust, contagious or infectious diseases, and life-threatening situations; work requires the use of protective clothing and devices.

Other: Specific hearing and visual requirements; may be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions including violent and armed confrontations; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; ability to restrain resistant persons; ability to remove resistant persons with violent behavior.

Physical Demands: work is typically performed while sitting, standing, walking, running, bending, crouching or stooping; work also requires the ability to climb stairs and to work at varying heights; employee occasionally lifts light or heavy objects, uses equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, must be able to distinguish between shades of color, must have vision acuity to read and recognize objects at various distances.

Mental Demands: maintain emotional control under stress; prolonged hours; ability to work shifts including rotating shifts/days off; may be on call 24 hours per day.
