What are the responsibilities and job description for the Police Investigator position at Cypress-Fairbanks ISD?

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Proof of high school graduation or certified GED required.
  • Must hold a valid Peace Officer License from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
  • Consideration will not be given to a TCOLE license or license from another state with a General Discharge, Dishonorable Discharge or the equivalent notation from previous law enforcement jobs.
  • Must have a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must not have a criminal history record and pass a thorough background investigation.
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years successful law enforcement experience as a full-time licensed peace officer with an Intermediate Certification.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of crime scene management, handling and processing evidence, and general investigative techniques.
  • Must be able to work with the Districts Attorney’s office and other local law enforcement agencies in order to build cases.
  • Must be able to handle a flexible and demanding schedule which may include responding when on call to various shifts and locations.
  • Minimum of two years investigative experience preferred.
  • CFISD Police Department candidates preferred.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :

260 Days

SALARY / PAYGRADE : 29.74 / HP-6

Salary (based on verifiable job-related experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year 2024-2025.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Meets all requirements and performs all the normal duties of a CFISD police officer as well as the duites of an investigator.
  • Reviews offense / incident reports assigned.
  • Monitors the police radio and responds in a timely manner to calls for assistance or service.
  • Assumes control of crime scene when summoned for investigative assistance and coordinates with on-site supervisor.
  • Takes appropriate action during an emergency situation, unusual crime, occurrence or condition.
  • Investigates any misuse of buildings or property belonging to CFISD.
  • Recommends additional security procedures to be implemented at different work locations in order to deter employee crimes.
  • Cooperates with Student Safety, Risk Management, and the Internal Audit Department in conducting in-depth investigations.
  • Investigates allegations of misconduct involving District personnel.
  • Conducts surveillance investigations.
  • Preserves, gathers and conducts thorough follow-up investigations at crime scenes.
  • Conducts interviews and interrogations in ongoing criminal investigations and other proceedings.
  • Makes arrests when necessary for crimes committed in plain view or uncovered through investigations.
  • Files charges accordingly.
  • Appears in court for criminal and civil proceedings as a witness and prepares cases for court presentations.
  • Acts as a liaison with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
  • Conducts detailed background checks on all CFISD Police Officers and or witnesses / suspects involved in a case.
  • Conducts detailed background checks as assigned by the Chief of Police or designee.
  • Recovers stolen, missing, or damaged property belonging to CFISD.
  • Conducts specialized investigations of crimes committed on CFISD property.
  • Acts as liaison with the Fire Department in investigations involving acts of arson committed against CFISD.
  • Conducts Internal Affairs duties as assigned.
  • Coordinates the generation of and obtaining of arrest and search warrants.
  • When assigned to Gang Unit, be able to catalog, monitor, work cases associated with gangs and gang members on a proactive basis.
  • Performs duties of investigator position as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Mental Demands / Physical Demands / Environmental Factors / Equipment Used :

    District vehicle, firearms, handcuffs, two-way radio, alarm system and other security equipment, fire extinguisher, and standard office equipment including computer and peripherals. Prolonged sitting and standing. Strenuous walking and climbing; frequent keyboarding / mouse, prolonged driving. Moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds) 10-50 pounds frequently; 50-100 pounds occasionally. Work inside and outside (moderate exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather), moderate exposure to noise, frequent district-wide travel. Specific hearing and visual requirements; may be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions including violent and armed confrontations; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; ability to restrain resistant persons; ability to remove resistant persons with violent behavior. Maintain emotional control under stress; prolonged hours; ability to work shifts including rotating shifts / days off; may be on call 24 hours per day.
