What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Liaison position at Danbury Public Schools?
- Recognize barriers to full participation and have actional steps to build families and school capacities.
- Contact parents through phone calls and or meetings to encourage participation in school educational opportunities
- Addresses or conveys family’s questions and concerns to appropriate school staff for the purpose of supporting school success.
- Conducts small groups educational opportunities to build dual capacity: families social and academic capital, knowledge of how their child’s school works, Parent Square usage, use of learning guides and activities learning to improved academic learning goals
- Convene a school-family action team for the development of the school’s Title 1 Compact.
- Work with other district liaisons to design and implement Family University-a year long offering of educational opportunities for families
- Acts as a liaison between families and school staff when problems arise and supports families by identifying and connecting them to district and community resources.
- Provides interpretation and translations necessary for parents, teachers and administrators during parent/student conferences, school meetings, etc.
- Coordinates family resource nights with community partners
- Maintain documentation of activities, use a variety of confidential manual and electronic documents, and prepare reports as required.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Fluent in Spanish and/or Portuguese
- Has good communication and problem solving skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in the District’s school-family partnership policy and regulation documents
- Experience in designing and implementing parent workshops and learning opportunities.
- Knowledge of child growth and development and learning strategies that foster educational growth.
- Understanding of the developmental process of developing family-school partnerships.
- Understand class and cultural backgrounds for families and the community and respect ethnic, cultural and language diversity.
- Able to be sensitive and respectful in communications regarding all children and families regardless of differences in cultural heritage, lifestyle, values and home environment.
- Knows Danbury rich resources, understands families’ cultural backgrounds and has fluency in dismantling racism.
- Participates in required professional development activities to maintain and enhance work related skills.
- Possesses computer skills in Word, Excel, ZOOM,
- 2 years of experience working with families or communities in differing capacities.
- 12 college credits in Early Childhood preferred
- Full time 32.5 hours per week.
- Schedule in consultation with Supervisor, some evenings and weekend hours may be required.
- $16.56/hour - member of the CSEA paraeducator Union.
