What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Manager (Commercial Construction) position at Danis Construction?
Overview
The Safety Manager directs and implements the company safety program to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident free work environment on assigned projects. The Safety Manager also assists to develop, implement, and administer job safety and health training programs, and provides input for jobsite safety meetings. The Safety Manager conducts safety surveys, participates in pre-job and pre-task planning for project safety activities, coordinates the safety program with client requirements, and acts as liaison with outside medical and insurance personnel. The Safety Manager also maintains a working relationship with appropriate government representatives. The Safety Manager keeps assigned jobs current on all applicable OSHA, State, or other governmental safety, health, and environmental requirements, conducts regular unannounced visits at all jobsites, analyzes and recommends corrective action for all accidents or near misses.
Duties:
- Mentor and Manage Safety Engineers and Co-ops
- Conduct training as needed
- Aid Project Teams in establishing the Jobsite Specific Safety Program
- Participate and help to facilitate Safety Preplanning for assigned projects
- Coach workforce on proper safety procedures and processes
- Perform Jobsite Audits on assigned projects
- Perform incident investigations
- Act as liaison between Management and Field Employees
- Network with local Safety Groups/Association
- Assess training needs based upon jobsite conditions/issues/trends
- Provide Safety Solutions to technical safety challenges in the field
- Participate with corporate training initiative by presenting/co-presenting training to Operations Employees
- Provide input into monthly planning sessions providing the overall safety direction within the company

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health/Safety or a closely related field
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a dedicated Safety role to the company operations
- OSHA 500 Authorization
- Safety Certifications (CHST, OHST, ASP, CSP)
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Spends much of their time in the field working with field employees and Jobsite Project teams. Spends a majority of time on various assigned construction sites where weather and conditions can reach extremes. Travels as needed, primarily local by automobile, or travel by airplane on a limited basis staying out of town as needed.
