Job Summary:
Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) works according to legal and ethical guidelines to ensure the correct and safe supply of medical products to patients. The PIC is involved in maintaining and improving people's health by providing advice and information, and supplying prescription medicines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Administrative Functions:
- Dispensing prescription medicines to the public, checking dosage and ensuring that medicines are correctly and safely supplied and labeled (pharmacists are legally responsible for any dispensing errors).
- Supervising the preparation of any medicines (not all are supplied ready made-up by the manufacturer).
- Keeping a register of controlled drugs for legal and stock control purpose.
- Liaising with doctors about prescriptions.
- Liaising with affiliated clinic managers and conducting quarterly audits and inspections to insure compliance with State and Federal drug storage and handling.
- Selling over-the-counter medicines.
- Counseling and advising the public on the treatment of minor ailments and any adverse side-effects of medicines or potential interactions with other medicines and treatments.
- Preparing doses and cassette boxes, usually for the elderly but also for those with memory, learning difficulties, where tablets are placed in compartments for specified days of the week.
- Providing specialist health check services, such as measuring and fitting compression hosiery, monitoring blood pressure and cholesterol levels, diabetes screening and pregnancy testing.
- Overseeing the ordering and safe storage of medical products and, in some cases, arranging the delivery of prescription medicines to patients.
- Keeping up-to-date with current pharmacy practice, new drugs and their uses.
- Maintaining computerized records.
- Managing, supervising and training pharmacy practice, new drugs and their uses.
- Selling healthcare and other products, such as toiletries, cosmetics and photographic items.
- Budgeting and financial management.
- Promoting sales and developing the business.
Staff Supervision:
- Responsible for collection and approval of time cards and benefit requests for staff under his/her supervision. Facilitates processing of payroll by submitting time cards and benefit requests to the Accounting Department in the time frame prescribed by policy and the needs of the Department.
- Provides staff training as necessary and ensures compliance with new employee and annual training requirements.
- Evaluates staff performance either directly or in collaboration with co-management.
- Conducts employee corrective action, provides guidance and conducts annual evaluations.
- Responsible for ensuring staff compliance with all policies and procedures, and all applicable laws and regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):
- Must possess a valid license to practice as a pharmacist issued by the State of California Board of Pharmacy.
- Personal qualities which will permit the PIC to work with the staff and residents of the community in such a manner as to earn their confidence and respect. The PIC should demonstrate concern for the welfare of all people served.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices involved in compounding and dispensing of prescriptions.
- Knowledge of pharmacy, drug, narcotic, and related laws of the state.
- Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, drugs, narcotics, and poisons.
- Knowledge of the calculation of doses and the preparation and use of percentage and stock solutions.
- Knowledge of the basic sciences underlying pharmacy, such as chemistry, biology, and physics.
- Knowledge of the processes involved in the manufacture of pharmaceutical preparations.
- Knowledge of stock control and related record keeping.
- Ability to apply safety and efficiency in the prescribing, dispensing, administering, and use of drugs and related articles for the prevention of illness and the maintenance and management of health.
- Ability to fill prescriptions and prepare official drugs and standard medications.
- Ability to recognize physical, chemical, and therapeutic incompatibilities.
- Ability to analyze and understand Physicians', Dentists’, or other recognized, medical personnel's oral or written orders involving standard symbols and terminology.
- Ability to apply pharmaceutical laboratory techniques.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Ability to maintain favorable public relations.
Salary : $145,000 - $165,000
