Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Pharmacist in Charge, the Pharmacy Technician will provide technical assistance in the dispensing of prescribed medications and pharmaceutical preparations.
Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Retrieves and delivers inpatient medications orders and supplies.
- Prepares unit-dose medications specific to patient needs including patient’s weight, allergies, and age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adults, and geriatric).
- Performs medications order entry into the pharmacy computer system.
- Assists pharmacists in filling ambulatory prescriptions specific to patient needs including patient’s weight, allergies, and age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
- Assists in record keeping activities in any assigned area.
- Maintains adequate drug inventories in pharmacy areas and patient care areas.
- Compounds bulk and extemporaneous pharmaceuticals specific to patients needs including weight and age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
- Performs automated compounding repackaging and cart-fill.
- Prepares sterile products utilizing aseptic technique.
- Communicates effectively with other pharmacy employees, healthcare professionals, and patients while appropriately recognizing age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
- Maintains a neat clean and organized work area.
- Demonstrates flexibility in staffing assignments.
- Adheres to internal controls established for department.
- Performs other related duties as requested.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):
- High school diploma or GED
- California State Board of Pharmacy Registration.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual in Spanish, preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid BLS certification obtained through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- PTCB certification within 18 months of employment.
