Job Summary

The VP of Safety Management is responsible for leading Darling Ingredients' Health & Safety Strategies for US operations. They will oversee and be responsible for the Company safety processes; and understand business from both a manufacturing and transportation prospective. Have the leadership acumen to help drive a company culture that values the safety of employees as a business imperative.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Strategically lead the Safety & Compliance programs. Promote a positive culture which recognizes and rewards safe behaviors and safe work practices.
  • Hire, mentor, lead, and develop safety managers within organization to provide quality consultative services to operations.
  • Maintain currency of the safety program by monitoring legislative actions, evaluating new requirements and developing new programs.
  • Develop and lead response plans for all OSHA inspections/inquiries.
  • Monitor and gather accident reports and publish monthly safety statistics for plant and transportation operations.
  • Develop and implement a management system to drive corporate level safety activities across assigned regions with in the corporate safety group. Coordinate corrective actions and internal consultative services with operation management.
  • Review safety investigations relevant to events occurring within the company. Ensure corrective actions are purposeful, complete, and implemented.
  • Investigate high profile accidents and coordinate with attorneys.
  • Leads Training for corporate and plant personnel in required topics such as OSHA, accident investigation, proper feedback techniques etc.
  • Initiate change in plant and fleet processes and procedures to provide and maintain safe work practices and environment.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Business OR in lieu of degree, must have a minimum of 15 years' Occupational Health and Safety specific experience required in a manufacturing and/or transportation environment.
  • In addition, must have 10-15 years of experience in the safety field with an emphasis and track record building and growing a team in a manufacturing and/or transportation.
  • Professional experience, with demonstrated growth in leadership and management roles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Occupational Safety or MBA preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; must work well in teams and be able to develop relationships with various levels of management.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to evaluate new regulations and change programs to ensure continued compliance.
  • Work well with all levels of the corporation.
  • Effective leader with the ability to hire, train and lead a team.
  • Highly organized; superior time management skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and oral.
  • Self-motivated; self-starter.
  • Ability to travel 40-50% of the time.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to walk, stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl and crouch.
  • Frequent travel, up to 50%
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Regularly required to reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

Job duties will be carried out in multiple environments including office, plant, customer location, and transportation vehicles.
