Darling Ingredients is looking for a Transportation Manager to join our team at our transportation team in Wadesboro, NC. This is a critical role responsible for oversight of all Transportation functions and manages Tractor-Trailer Operations (raw material & finished goods), Trap Operations, Route Operations and all Transportation staff.

PURPOSE: 

Oversees the operation of the transportation of raw material and finished goods to and from the Company’s locations and customers. Responsible for the; Transportation Supervisors, Transportation Admin and the drivers. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

• Ensure all loads are brought in, and outgoing loads are accomplished. 
• Ensure there is adequate coverage of drivers. 
• Oversee Transportation Supervisor(s), Dispatcher, and drivers. 
• Oversees the fuel consumption of trucks and equipment in their portion by tracking fuel tickets, etc. 
• Ensures the correct trailers are utilized properly. 
• Responsible for general efficiency of transportation to and from the plant. 
• Recruit, develop and retain an effective transportation staff team to support the goals of the organization. 
• Hires and terminates employees as necessary for the good of the division and Company overall. 
• Develop and maintain a common safety culture by assuring the identification and control of workplace hazards for all employees to reduce recordable injuries. 
• Expected to perform other duties as assigned. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

This position will be responsible for the supervision of Transportation Supervisor, Administration-Scale House, Security/Truck Wash and all transportation staff. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Above average written and verbal communication skills. 
• Ability to measure and report operational progress. 
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment. 
• Working knowledge of DOT/OSHA regulations. 
• Must maintain a CDL license. 
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Excel, and Word. 
• Hands-on knowledge of on-board recording devices, GPS communication, and routing optimization systems. 
• Good customer service experience. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk or hear.  
• The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.  
• Must be able to occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
