Position Summary:

The Ammonia Refrigeration Technician is responsible for operating, monitoring, maintaining, and repairing ammonia refrigeration systems and related mechanical equipment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring food safety, equipment efficiency, and facility compliance with industry and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, repair, and operate ammonia refrigeration systems, HVAC, and boiler systems
  • Monitor system pressures, temperatures, and flow rates to ensure efficiency
  • Perform inspections, diagnostics, and mechanical repairs of valves, pumps, motors, compressors, and more
  • Read and interpret blueprints, building plans, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
  • Cut, thread, and connect pipe systems to equipment and facility water/power sources
  • Start and shut down systems and make necessary adjustments
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and assist in planning installations and upgrades
  • Ensure safety compliance and respond to emergency service calls when required
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in clean, safe condition
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and document tasks completed
  • Adhere to all GMP, food safety, and plant safety regulations

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1–3 years of experience in industrial ammonia refrigeration or similar systems
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ammonia Refrigeration Certification (required)
  • EPA Refrigerant Certification (preferred)

Additional Skills:

  • Knowledge of basic electrical systems and controls
  • Able to operate forklift, man lift, and mobile equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow work orders, safety rules, and procedures

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, lift (up to 50 lbs), kneel, crawl, and use hand tools
  • Work in high places, cold or humid environments, and near mechanical equipment
  • Must be comfortable in loud, production-based work settings

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $35.00 - $37.00 per hour
