What are the responsibilities and job description for the MYSQL Database Administrator position at Data Intensity?
MySQL is a role working in an operations team of MySQL DBA’s in the delivery of high-quality business services to both cloud hosted, as well as remotely managed Data Intensity customers.
Together with:
- The position is responsible for the administration of MySQL environments across the globe within a matrix support and management model.
- Responsible for oversight of ticket queue and SLA performance.
- Support the several database service models including Cloud and RMS services for the DI customer base within a 24x7 rotating shift model.
- Contribute to the resolution of database-related issues and outages.
- Work with the DI monitoring team, responsible for overseeing, maintaining, and improving database monitoring to include proactive responses to prevent database related issues, while at the same time predicting future expansion needs via trending analysis.
- Responsible for managing and delivering multiple projects within expected due dates, ensuring to keep all parties involved informed of progress.
- Coordinate work between multiple global teams.
- Communicate within cross-functional and global teams for optimal performance.
- Support and follow the DI Change Management process and procedures.
- Support and follow the DI P0 and P1 escalation process.
- Support and follow the DI security management program and policy.
- Support and participate as needed in the Data Intensity RCA (Root Cause Analysis) process.
- Responsible for evaluating patching requests, communicating constraints, risks, issues and timelines for deployment.
- Responsible for customer communications including ticketing system, email, direct person to person phone interaction, as well as participation in conference calls, and in some cases providing leadership of customer interaction in conference calls and other communications.
- Work on other functions and duties as assigned.
In combination with:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field preferred OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- MySQL and Cloud certifications preferred.
- 1-3 years of direct hands on DBA support for MySQL.
- Expertise in all major versions of MySQL including Oracle, Percona, MariaDB.
- Hands-on operational DBA expertise in the areas of Replication, Log shipping, High Availability (PXC and Oracle Clustering) and Backup/Recovery.
- Performance-tuning skills to review performance data and prepare reports.
- Expertise of maintenance/patching mechanics.
- Logging, managing, and resolving SR's with Oracle or other open source support.
- SQL and Linux scripting skills are required skills.
- Hands on Linux and Windows system administration experience a plus.
- Strong communication skills are a requirement for this position:
- Strong English speaking and writing skills are required
- Ability to manage customer or in-house escalation calls is required
- Strong comprehension skills are required
- Conversational skills are a must
- Strong skills in the use of Microsoft products: MS Word, Excel, and Outlook are required.
- Experience and ability to follow but also develop and write operational documentation is required.
You are the best candidate if you have:
- 3 years of experience in a services company is strongly preferred (Hosting, Remote Services, XaaS etc)
- MySQL, ITIL Foundation and Cloud (Azure, AWS) certifications preferred.
- Experience with Code Migration tools is a plus.
- Hands on Linux and Windows system administration experience a plus.
- Experience with AWS and Azure Cloud is a plus.
