Student Supplemental Instructor

DEPARTMENT: Academic-College of A & S

WORK LOCATION: Grand Rapids - Lettinga Campus

POSITION PAY RANGE: $12.48

Summary

This position acts as an additional academic support for students enrolled in the Organic chemistry courses offered on the Lettinga campus, helping students with in class activities, tutoring outside of class as well as assisting the instructor and the department with various tasks. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University’s mission, vision, and values which include diversity, equity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting the instructor in the classroom by working with students during in class activities.
  • Tutoring students in small groups outside of the class room.
  • Responsible for creating, maintaining and updating files for in class activities.
  • Generate correspondence, presentation materials, spreadsheets and graphics, and other materials needed for the course using various software programs.
  • Assist with special STEM events and Department functions as needed.
  • Handle documents while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
  • Conduct special projects, research and assignments as needed.
  • Provide GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers.
  • Demonstrate and promote the University Cultural Values.
  • Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC and national affiliations associated within athletics or other role specific regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the instructor.

Qualifications

  • A Junior/Senior enrolled in the Biological Laboratory Science program at DU.
  • Student should have completed the 2 semester Organic Chemistry lecture and lab courses.
  • Student should have a good understanding of Organic Chemistry, mastered the concepts and exceled in the course
  • Student should have a passion for the subject matter.
  • Must be eligible for federal work study.
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours as an undergraduate student or 3 credit hours as a graduate student while meeting the standards of academic progress.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that transcend diverse audiences; communicating to students with positive attitudes, adapting towards different learning styles, and maintain confidentiality.
  • No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 35
  • Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University.
