Transportation Engineer-in-Training

DEA’s Portland, OR office is hiring a Transportation Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to work in the Transit and Rail group of the Transportation Business Unit. This position would support both transit and rail projects as well as roads and highway projects with the Transportation Business Unit, and work with other offices through workshare opportunities. 

We are looking for someone who can collaborate well with a variety of groups to join our established team, and benefit from the mentorship of our strong group of experienced professionals. The work our group does is dynamic and engaging and offers exposure to a variety of civil engineering disciplines and tasks. The ideal candidate is detail oriented with a commitment to delivery high quality work products.

DEA offers employees flexibility in their work hours and has a long-term plan to allow a hybrid schedule of 3 days a week minimum of in-office work and 1-2 days a week of working from home, once our overall transition back to in-office work is complete.

As an EIT, the responsibilities will be diverse and will include but not be limited to the following:

• Works with project teams on all aspects of projects, including drafting, design, 3D visualizations, quality reviews and cost estimating
• Design tasks on a wide range of transportation projects, such as transit, multi-modal, complete streets, freeways and highways
• Prepares and/or modifies construction documents, reports, specifications, cost estimates, and designs for projects
• Analyzes maps, reports, drawings, as-builts and test results for design projects
• Assists with post design construction support services to respond to contractor RFI’s, submittal reviews, as-built preparation, and field observations
• Performs construction inspection on project-specific basis
• Coordinates work and performs engineering tasks with other disciplines and offices, such as bridge design, water resources, traffic design, and surveying
• Assists with utility coordination including conflict analysis and coordination with public and private utility companies

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• Engineer-in-Training Certification
• 2-4 years of professional engineering experience
• Experience with Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Good communication skills (written and oral)
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
• Experience with Microstation and OpenRoads Designer and/or Civil3D

Preferred Qualifications:

• Drafting and design experience with Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/InRoads/OpenRoads for the design of alignments and 3D design surfaces
• Transportation project experience
• Construction experience
• 1 years of experience designing transportation projects
