The high school history teacher will guide the learning process toward the achievement of established district curriculum goals, establishes and communicates clear objectives to the students for all lessons, units and projects.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
The History Teacher reports to the principal.
Responsibilities:
-Teach history courses to high school students, focusing on United States history, world history, or a specialized area of historical study.
-Develop and implement dynamic and differentiated lesson plans that align with state and national standards for history education and cater to diverse learning needs.
-Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, resources, and technologies to foster student engagement, critical inquiry, and historical thinking skills.
-Cultivate a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages respectful discourse, intellectual curiosity, and academic excellence.
-Assess student learning through a variety of formative and summative assessments, providing timely feedback to students and parents on their progress.
-Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, share instructional strategies, and support interdisciplinary connections across subject areas.
-Participate actively in department meetings, professional development opportunities, and school-wide initiatives to enhance teaching practice and student learning.
-Serve as an advisor or mentor to students, providing academic guidance, support, and encouragement as they navigate their high school experience.
-Stay informed about historical scholarship, educational research, and best practices in history education through professional reading, conferences, and workshops.
-Uphold professional standards and ethical guidelines outlined by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the school district.
-Perform other duties as assigned by the school administration or department chair to support the mission and goals of the school community.
