- Conducts mammography study by positioning breasts; adjusting compression mechanisms; instructing patient to hold breath; retreating to lead protected area; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors; activating equipment to take image; releasing compression mechanisms; preparing for next positioning and view.
- Maintains production and quality of mammograms by following established standards and procedures; developing mammograms; observing mammogram results; determining necessary. adjustments for optimum results; retaking mammograms as required; forwarding completed studies to radiologist for interpretation.
- Performs all aspects of Mammography including Needle localizations and Stereotactic Breast Biopsies.
- Set, adjust, manipulate, control and maintain a variety of complex electronic equipment to apply ionizing radiation to patients for diagnosis of disease using proper KVP, MA, exposure time and focal film distance.
- Practice radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factor, to minimize radiation to patient, staff and self.
- Explain the procedure to the patient. Instruct and assist patient in assuming physical position for exam.
- Performs bone density exams.
- Completion of a 2-year approved Radiological Technology Program required.
- Current license in the State of Connecticut required.
- Registered, or registry eligible, with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists required.
- Maintenance of appropriate CEU's to meet ARRT guidelines required.
- CPR – Current AHA Healthcare Provider Certification / equivalent within 3 months of hire is required.
- Approved computer registration according to the Admitting policies, if applicable, is preferred.
- Mammographers are required to be registered, or registry eligible, in Mammography with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists.
- Mammographers must maintain annual educational requirements as described by MQSA. 8 digital mammography hours of training.
- Minimum of 1-year practical experience performing related duties as a radiographer is preferred.
- High degree of technical aptitude with an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
- Ability to set, adjust, manipulate, control and maintain a variety of complex electronic equipment to apply ionizing radiation to patients for diagnosis of disease.
- Ability to measure, calculate, and select proper electronic and technical factors such as KVP, MA, exposure time and focal film or focal object distance; select proper type of film and accessories.
