The Dayton Art Institute (DAI) a museum for all seeks Facilities Assistants to perform a variety of custodial-related tasks necessary in the operation of the museum including, but not limited to maintaining the upkeep of the building and grounds for cleanliness according to the Museums Photo-Ready standards; maintaining inventory of supplies; helping set-up/clean-up for meetings and events. The successful candidates are expected to be self-starters, good managers of time, able to work independently, and follow the Museums standards for safety and conduct. This position is full-time, first shift with a starting rate of $18.00/hour, Monday - Friday. Must be available to work some evenings and holidays.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required;
- Minimum of three (3) years related experience performing janitorial, custodial or housekeeping duties, or interior maintenance.
- Knowledge of floor care practices, procedures and equipment strongly desired.
- Knowledge of materials, chemicals, and equipment used in a cultural institution and safety practices in janitorial and housekeeping work.
- Knowledge of American Sign Language and/or multilingual a plus
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to maintain consistent movement throughout the museum. Regularly required to position oneself to use, inspect and maintain equipment and supplies; operate a computer and other equipment and machinery. Must be able to communicate information and ideas; converse, convey and express oneself, and exchange information so others will understand; detect, discern, determine, perceive, identify, recognize, judge, observe, inspect, estimate, assess and observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer). Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Frequently move objects weighing up to 45 pounds (unassisted) and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (assisted) for various needs. On occasion, ascend/descend, work on, traverse and be exposed to work functions in outdoor weather conditions. The largest amount of time is spent moving and/or being in a stationary position throughout the museum for duration of schedule.
