What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Technician position at Dayton Metro Library?
The Dayton Metro Library is seeking a full-time Facilities Technician to join our Facilities team! Our Library system has recently completed a modernization project, and the facilities team is needed to keep our libraries looking good! Examples of tasks that our Facilities team performs include: basic repairs on library equipment, plumbing and electrical fixtures, as well as repairing drywall and painting. The typical schedule for the Facilities Technician is Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. This position reports to the Maintenance Manager. Join our team today!

Essential Job Duties
- Performs advanced maintenance and repair of the Library buildings and grounds.
- Performs preventative maintenance on interior and exterior of all Library buildings using digital building maintenance software.
- Troubleshoots and makes adjustments to electrical, plumbing, HVAC and advanced modern lighting systems.
- Assembles, maintains, and repairs library equipment such as furniture, shelving, and book trucks.
- Assists departments and branches with special facilities projects as needed.
- Unloads, stores, packages, and delivers facilities supplies and materials to all Library locations.
- Performs informal audits to support facility health and safety.
- Monitors chillers, boilers, plumbing systems, electrical, and Building Automation Systems for normal operation. Makes adjustments as needed.
- Performs general cleaning, ground maintenance activities, and sets up furniture for programming or events as needed.
- Contacts contractors and acts as intermediary as needed to obtain estimates and/or oversees work being performed, as directed.
- May be required to answer emergency calls on nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Creates, prioritizes and completes work orders using digital building maintenance software.
Job Qualifications
- One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and continuous insurability required.
- Basic knowledge of facilities maintenance programs including planning and implementing preventative maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of various skilled trades such as HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, electrical materials, plumbing equipment, painting/patching materials, cleaning supplies.
- Ability to learn automated system functions used in carrying out job duties. Ability to use word processing and e-mail preferred.
- Occasional on-call hours required.
Compensation and Benefits: The starting hourly rate for this position is $19.69. Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance along with paid time off and OPERS retirement.
