JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Learning Consultant
FLSA Status: _X_ Exempt ___ Non-Exempt ___ Part-time
Job Summary:
Learning Consultants at De Smet Jesuit High School collaborate with faculty and administration to
support students with learning disabilities or other special needs. They ensure that environmental factors
and technology are optimized for the academic and personal success of the students under their care. This
is done in the Jesuit tradition and the spirit of cura personalis. This position must maintain the highest
professional standards of confidentiality, discretion and compassion.
Specific Responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assessing students to identify issues that are affecting development, learning, or testing ability
- Identifying resource or environmental issues which may affect student learning or testing
- Advising faculty regarding students in their classrooms who have learning needs
- Assisting faculty with developing support plans for students with diagnosed learning needs
- Working closely with parents and families to ensure that students are receiving necessary parental
- Collaborating with faculty and administration to ensure that students have the appropriate
- Training faculty in classroom techniques to maximize learning capabilities of students with
- Identifying reasonable academic targets for students with learning needs
- Identifying, developing, or obtaining essential resources or to assist students with their learning
- Monitoring the classroom and school environment to eliminate barriers to student learning and to
- Guiding students and their families to appropriate outside resources for students with learning
- Managing and facilitating communication with outside resources for students with learning needs
- Assisting with curriculum development to accommodate students with learning needs
- Advising students with learning needs on techniques and resources for ensuring their academic
- Tutoring or testing students with learning needs as appropriate

Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in special education, educational administration, educational counseling, or
related area
- Superior skills in problem solving and interpersonal communications
- Highly developed character with excellent command of discretion, compassion, and Ignatian
values.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Teacher’s certificate in secondary education, guidance and counseling, or special education
- Minimum of five years of relevant consultant or teaching experience in an educational setting
- High school experience in a Catholic setting
- Understanding of and commitment to the spirit and mission of Jesuit education
- Practicing Catholic, committed to Catholic orthodoxy
