    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development
    Early Childhood Education, Social Work, or related field preferred.
    Associates Degree with concentration in the field of Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or related field, or extensive casework management
    Ability to function effectively as a member of the school faculty.

    REPORTS TO:
    Building Principal and/or Designee
    Program Coordinator

    SUPERVISES:
    Students
    Interns/Work Study Students
    Parent volunteers
    Community volunteers

    PURPOSE: The parent educator will work collaboratively with families, education staff and community partners to ensure that the program meets the needs of the whole child and supports parents/guardians in addressing family needs and setting and achieving ambitious family goals. This is a grant funded position.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following are the essential fundamentals to include, but not limited to, the following job duties.)
    • Foster involvement of parents/families of preschool age children in their child’s education.
    • Assist parents with special needs/concerns;
    • Link families with community support groups.
    • Plan and coordinate parent meetings.
    • Plan and coordinate with staff: workshops, special events, and monthly activities, including evening activities.
    • Follow up with parents of students who are frequently tardy or absent.
    • Monitor health and dental records to ensure that children receive regular screenings and follow-up for any treatment needs.
    • Coordinate parent meetings and workshops to educate parents in the areas of child health, mental health and development.
    • Assist parents in establishing a “medical home” and “dental home” for their children to ensure access to consistent health care. BOE Approved: 04/12/2016
    • Collaborate with mental health consultant to facilitate evaluation of children with parent consent and referrals to mental health resources as needed.
    • Conduct home visits and provide support to parents and their children.
    • Coordinate resources (i.e., transportation, child care, etc.) for the purpose of providing the parents an opportunity to become active participants in school activities/organizations.
    • Participate in collaborative activities with child care centers, off-site preschool programs, and various community agencies.
    • Conduct ongoing preschool and kindergarten screenings.
    • Maintain and organize documentation of parental involvement for state reports.
    • Assist in the creation and publication of weekly/monthly building newsletters, calendars and parent fliers announcing registration information and parent events.
    • Assist with student registration at off-site locations for District Pre-K program.
    • Assist in the planning and coordination of community engagement activities.
    • Work with staff to host monthly school visit days for parents and community agencies.
    • Attend scheduled meetings, professional development, and required trainings.
    • Other duties assigned by the principal and/or designee.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    The Lead Pre-K Parent Educator is an administrative support position.
    Salary is based upon qualifications and the Board established salary schedule.
    This position is 7 hours per day and 224 days per year.
    Salary is grant funded.
    Potential for additional days based on grant funding.

    EVALUATION:

    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.

    PHYSICAL/MENTAL & WORKING CONDITIONS:

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    The employee works mostly with people, objects, and equipment in a school setting. The employee is required to read, write, and type in performing the essential duties of the job. The employee is regularly required to bend, stoop, twist, turn, reach, lift (occasionally up to 50 pounds), carry, pull, push, climb, and kneel. The employee is required to walk and stand approximately 50-75% of school day. Depth perception and field of vision are important. The employee must recognize differences in sound, such as voices/noises that are loud and playful instead of angry and combative.

    MENTAL DEMANDS:

    The employee must ensure that students are supervised at all times, and that students are involved in safe and appropriate activities. There may be a number of situations happening at once, and the employee must be prepared to handle accidents and emergencies at any time.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    The employee will be working in a busy and occasionally noisy environment. There may be a number of activities and situations happening at once, and the employee will have to supervise, or make sure students are supervised at all times. The employee must have a valid driver’s license and may be required to drive to sites outside the school setting.
