What are the responsibilities and job description for the Para-educator position at Decorah Middle School?

Position Highlights

  • Work closely with classroom teachers to support daily lessons and student needs.
  • Provide student support in small groups or one-on-one settings.
  • Supervise students in and out of the classroom (including lunch, recess, or passing times)
  • Attend to the physical, academic, and emotional needs of students
  • Model professional and ethical standards in all interactions with students, staff, and families
  • Build positive, collaborative relationships within the school community

 

Hours & Compensation

  • Regular hours: 35 hours/week, 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM (some positions 7:45 AM – 2:45 PM)
  • Occasional extra duty: 7:45–8:00 AM or 3:00–3:15/3:30 PM depending on assignment
  • Pay range: $16.10 – $23.10/hour based on prior experience
    • $0.35/hour with an AA degree, or beyond
    • $0.60/hour with Advanced Paraeducator Certification
  • Paid over 24 periods (year-round, even though work occurs during the school year)
  • Additional hours paid on the following paycheck

    • Life Insurance: $35,000 coverage
    • Lunch Provided: If job duties include working through lunch or supporting student lunch needs, the district will pay for your lunch—hot lunch, salad, wrap, or sandwich options available at the high school and middle school.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience working with children or youth
  • Practical communication skills with both students and adults
