What are the responsibilities and job description for the Materials Handler I position at Default (MSD)?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Assist in the daily operations of the Shipping & Receiving department in the receipt of raw materials and distribution of finished goods. Some degree of professional latitude, creativity and self management is expected.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Packing and shipping sensitive electronic equipment and temperature sensitive products using various shipping systems and carriers
• Work order assembly (Kitting) for manufacturing groups
• Receive and stock incoming materials and finished goods
• Operate material handling equipment (e.g. forklift, pallet jack, hand trucks, etc.)
• Transacting inventory to work orders, account numbers and sales orders using ERP system
• Drive company vehicles, or assist the driver, in the delivery of material throughout the company campus (and between corporate campus locations)
• Process outgoing mail using a USPS certified postage machine
• Re-stock shipping and inventory supplies throughout the company campus (as needed)
• Assist in the completion of all ‘shared’ responsibilities within the department (e.g. labeling, trash collection and disposal, consumables replenishment, inventory moves, etc.)
o May conduct physical inventory or cycle counts
o May participate in work space organization/reorganization
• Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma required
o Associate’s level degree or equivalent experience preferred
• Minimum 2 years of experience in shipping and receiving
o Experience with UPS Worldship, a FedEx Café shipping system and LTL carriers
o Experience with inventory management/ERP systems, preferably JD Edwards
• Valid driver’s license and company insurable driving record required
• Experience in a Manufacturing and/or Biotechnology environment
• Experience with cGMP and/or ISO certification is highly preferred
• A demonstrated level of consistency in performance and aptitude for managing additional responsibility and accountability are required for next level consideration
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Demonstrated proficiency in the use of material handling equipment, including, but not limited to forklifts, pallet jacks and hand trucks
• Ability to operate/execute basic computer skills with a working knowledge of MS Office Suite
o The quantitative background to advance this knowledge on the job is expected
• Able to read and comprehend shipping and inventory reports
• Strong mathematic fundamentals and analytical background
• Demonstrate an aptitude for learning and adhering to standard inventory/material handling techniques and safety precautions as presented
• Effective oral, written communication and interpersonal skills
o Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy and reliability of inventory/shipping data
• Ability to multi-task and work productively in a demanding manufacturing environment with changing priorities
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to use material handling equipment
• This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and move about the office
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• This position is mainly performed in a warehouse environment
o Certain tasks will require work to be performed in walk in cold rooms and freezers
