The Clerk Messenger also conducts daily delivery of all court related documents for the Association to the Criminal Justice Center, the District Attorney’s office, and various agencies in the Center City area. The Clerk Messenger interacts with court and police administration and files and serves court orders for case related files and documents. The clerk messenger provides general clerical support for Defender staff, delivering internal documents to various departments. This role’s tasks are essential to the Unit’s work to provide the best legal representation for our clients.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct interoffice deliveries, ensuring that documents, files and reports and delivered timely, to specified staff and departments
- Photocopy bench warrant, closed, Motions and sentence deferred files
- Scan and shred closed files
- Collect and shred office paperwork from shredding bins
- Provide support for Front Desk Receptionists, when necessary
- Maintain incoming/outcoming Postal Mail
- Deliver/ Pickup and retrieve court documents to Criminal Justice Center, City Hall, District Attorney’s Office, and other agencies, as needed
- Request and copy Quarter Sessions files at CJC
- Order and pick up photos, criminal extracts, and computer printouts at the Police Administration Building
- File appeals for the Municipal Court Unit; orders and petitions and Omnibus Motions
- Back up other messengers when necessary
- Provide support for Supply & Maintenance Clerks, when necessary
What You’ll Need
- Must be computer literate, working knowledge of (i.e. Microsoft Office Software programs)
- Professional demeanor
- Familiarity with office and criminal justice procedures. A knowledge of filing petitions at the CJC is preferred
- Willingness to deliver documents and court files, to the Criminal Justice Center, District Attorney’s Office, Police Administrative Building, etc. in any type of weather and under time constraints
- Transporting bulk files to and from the Defender Office to the Criminal Justice Center, preferred
- Must be a team player
- Excellent attendance
- Requires full Covid vaccination or approved exemption request
- Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds
