Job Objectives:

  • The role of the instructional coach is to build teacher capacity and their understanding of instructional practices. An instructional coach is a learner who models continuous improvement, lifelong learning, and goes above and beyond to ensure student success. An Instructional Coach will promote reflection, provide guidance and structure where needed, and focus on strengths, collaboration, and common issues of concern. They are responsible for ensuring high quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, coteaching, and providing feedback to teachers. The instructional coach will demonstrate and model a passion for career technical education and leadership.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Ohio teacher’s license or certificate appropriate for the assignment.
  • Master’s Degree or a minimum of 5 years technology-related experience.
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience; (career technical teaching preferred).
  • Ability to design and deliver professional learning experiences.
  • Knowledge of data collection and analysis; ability to assist teachers with making datadriven instructional decisions.
  • Experience in and knowledge of research-based instructional strategies, STEM programming, conditions of learning, and assessment driven instruction.
  • Knowledge of the principles of 21st Century skills, the practices of teaching & learning, and Ohio certification & licensure process.
  • Ability to manage fiscal, physical, and human resources to successfully adapt to rapidly changing demands.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with administration, staff, community and home school personnel.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in office protocol and the use of information technology systems including but not limited to Microsoft Office products (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
  • Compliance with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
  • Proof of meeting all mandated health requirements.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:


The following duties are representative of performance expectations. A reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential functions.

  • Designs and coordinates staff development activities, including the Entry Year and mentor programs.

  • Develops staff capacity to manage their own self-improvement, self-development, and to grow their own professional network.

  • Supports new teacher development and monitors the implementation of the district policies and procedures.

  • Support the new teacher orientation activities.

  • Serves as an ex-officio member of the Local Professional Development Committee.
  • Supports the intranet development and integration.
  • Assist staff in the use of research-based instructional strategies, conditions of learning and assessment driven instruction.
  • Designs and delivers professional learning opportunities.
  • Work with staff and administration to analyze student data, diagnose instructional needs, and identify research-based strategies to close gaps.
  • Supports teachers’ achievement of goals by using coaching strategies that gradually release responsibility for implementing instructional practices to the teacher (for example coplanning, modeling, co-teaching, side-by-side coaching, and observing).
  • Communicates with staff and administration.
  • Models lesson effectively.
  • Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures.
  • Maintains visibility. Promotes a professional image of the school district. Builds community partnerships that enhance district programs and services.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation the district’s continuous improvement plan.
  • Develops a strategy to accomplish personal performance objectives within specified time line.
  • Maintains open and effective communications with staff, home schools, and the community.
  • Prepares budget recommendations that address professional development objectives.
  • Requisitions essential program supplies and equipment.
  • Collects, maintains, analyzes, and makes recommendations around necessary data.
  • Promotes the continuity of instructional strategies.
  • Promotes the continuity of staff development.
  • Communicates high expectations.
  • Promotes the effective use of available technology in records management and instructional activities. Upholds computer technology acceptable use policies.
  • Respects personal privacy and maintains confidentiality.
  • Takes precautions to ensure staff/student safety. Watches for student behavior that may indicate a problem (e.g., profanity, teasing, bullying, distress, etc.). Intervenes and works with staff to eliminate unacceptable behavior. Contacts administrators regarding issues of safety/ethics.
  • Reports evidence of suspected child abuse as required by law.
  • Supports appropriate research and pilot projects. Identifies and recommends funding opportunities. Helps prepare grant and foundation proposals.
  • Participates in professional growth opportunities.
  • Accepts personal responsibility for decisions and conduct.
  • Strives to develop rapport and serve as a positive role model for others.
  • Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.

Supervisory Responsibility:


Under the direction of the Secondary Operations Director: plans work assignments, provides instructions, and monitors assigned staff, student trainees, and volunteers. Collaborates with others as needed to successfully accomplish delegated duties.

Exposure to the following situations may range from remote to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable.

  • Duties may require balancing, bending, climbing, crouching, kneeling, reaching, standing, and working at various heights.

  • Duties may require lifting, carrying, and moving work-related supplies/equipment.

  • Duties may require operating and/or riding in a vehicle.

  • Duties may require operating power-driven equipment.

  • Duties may require prolonged use of a computer keyboard and monitor.

  • Duties may require wearing protective clothing and using safety equipment.

  • Duties may require working extended, evening, and/or weekend hours.

  • Duties may require working under time constraints to meet deadlines.

  • Potential for exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.

  • Potential for exposure to air-borne particulates, chemical irritants, combustible materials, electrical hazards, equipment vibrations, noises, and odors.

  • Potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases.

  • Potential for interaction with disruptive and/or unruly individuals.

Job performance is evaluated according to the Negotiated Agreement and policy provisions adopted by the Delaware Area Career Center Board of Education.
