What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tank Inspector / Sample Processor position at Delicato Family Wines?
Position Purpose
Under minimal supervision, the Tank Inspector/ Sample Processor supports two areas. The first priority is tank inspection and treatment. This requires regularly evaluating, treating, and reporting on the overall quality of wine in storage tanks. This role is critical to protecting wine quality. The second priority is to the sampling department, which requires collecting wine samples and distributing them appropriately.
Functional Responsibility
Essential Duties
- Visually inspects the wine surface and tank top surroundings of each tank storing wine
- Treats fheadspace of 50 gallons or more with CO2 (Dry Ice)
- Treats films that develop on the wine surface with Liquid SO2
- Notes any obvious off-aromas when inspecting wine surface
- Accurately pulls samples from tanks using zone samplers, valves, etc.
- Monitors inventory of sampling/shipping supplies
- Maintains cleanliness within the sampling department and cleanliness of all equipment used in the inspection and treatment process
- Generates daily reports as necessary
- Maintains a strong customer service relationship with our internal customers

Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- One year general winery experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong organization skills, reading, writing and communication skills
- Works well independently and in a team environment
- Must be able to work rapidly and accurately, performing multiple tasks simultaneously
- Thrives well under pressure and in an exciting environment
- Proficient in desktop applications (Microsoft Office preferred)
- Knowledge of Winemaking and Cellar is preferred

Working Conditions
- A majority of time is spent out doors in the elements
- Required to drive automotive vehicle or equipment
- Indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to the elements/temperature variations
- Exposure to weather-related temperature & humidity extremes
- Work at protected heights of 50’
- Exposure to varying levels of dust, chemicals, fumes, gases, and noisy equipment
