Job Summary: The Project Engineer is responsible for reviewing sketches and designs and managing system processes for assigned projects. The primary goal is to design systems that are both highly effective and cost-efficient. This role involves understanding customer specifications, assisting the Project Manager in organizing and overseeing engineering activities, and facilitating detailed equipment concept and proposal review meetings. The Project Engineer will work closely with various engineering teams and departments to ensure that all project deliverables are met and maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and interpret project sketches, designs, and customer specifications to ensure system performance and cost efficiency.
  • Assist the Project Manager in organizing and supervising all engineering activities related to the project.
  • Schedule and facilitate detailed equipment concept and proposal review meetings with teams from Advance Processing, Mechanical, and Controls Engineering.
  • Create, review, and track process deliverables; schedule and facilitate both internal and customer reviews.
  • Review layouts and designs with Design Vendors and the Engineering Department.
  • Coordinate meetings with design groups and representatives from other departments as needed.
  • Schedule and facilitate formal design review meetings between the customer’s representatives and the project team.
  • Support Manufacturing kick-off meetings and advise on customer considerations, requests, and specifications.
  • Monitor the release of all drawings through the business system.
  • Address telephone inquiries from build suppliers and shop personnel regarding engineering and associated issues.
  • Ensure all As-Built and Non-Conformances are updated on drawings as provided by Build Supervisors and Site Supervisors.
  • File and maintain all component information and drawings for the assigned project.
  • Schedule and review FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) and ERGO (Ergonomics) assessments at rough sketch and forty percent design completion phases, as required.
  • Ensure designs are cost-effective and monitor engineering progress, reporting findings to the Project Manager.
  • Review Controls Line-ups for accuracy and completeness.
  • Collect information from Engineering Changes to determine project impact and support cost negotiations as needed.
  • Understand and adhere to safety and environmental regulations, identifying and addressing safety/environmental concerns.
  • Adhere to the Quality System and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance as an essential job function.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field from a four-year college or university.
  • Three to five years of relevant experience in specific business segments such as BIW, Chassis/Glass, Special Welding, etc., or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Competence in controls engineering and mechanical design, including knowledge of force analysis, standardization, processing, CAD, cause and effects, R&M, SPC, and FMEA.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to review CAD models using the required software.


Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Proficiency in writing routine reports and correspondence.
  • Effective verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak before groups of customers or employees.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to work with probability, statistical inference, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Capability to follow instructions in written, oral, or diagram form and solve problems involving variables in standardized situations.
