Works to engage and involve parents, students, community leaders and school administrators to increase participation in and understanding of community engagement programs targeting Black and African American families. Involves grassroots organizing, interacting with parents/guardians of diverse backgrounds, as well as with community leaders by email, phone, text, face-to-face. Coordinates meaningful, engaging events, including but not limited to, school-based parent outreach events, industry summits and recognitions/celebrations. Supports other marketing initiatives and communications campaign development and execution.

What You'll Do:
Serves as a liaison and a main point of contact for district based Black/African American family and community engagement; supports students, families, community organizations (e.g., BFAC, etc. and others) in navigating and making connections within the District; Creates, maintains and supports tool-kit of engagement strategies for school level engagement, such as school level BFACs or other named Black/African American parent/family groups, and events as it aligns with district and community priorities.- Provides culturally effective outreach and communication targeting Black/African American families; partners with community groups, non-profits, faith-based organizations and the business community; maintains website and direct messaging, such as e-newsletter, and creates other collateral and avenues to keep the communication actively open between the district and the Black/African American community.
- Strategizes and executes the vision of current and ongoing family engagement work and supports department’s mission, goals and district initiatives; provides thought partnership and consulting to schools and external departments in developing culturally effective communication and engagement plans for projects and initiatives targeting Black/African American families.
- Supports African American Equity Task Force (AAETF) efforts, such as and not limited to: Anchored in Series, Summer Programming, and engaging and presenting with the AAETF Implementation planning team.
- Supports creation and revision (as necessary) of tool-kits and templates for best practices in engaging Black/African American families; provides thought partnership and consulting to FACE department teams in regards to their work with Black/African American Families and Community.
- Designs, gathers and updates system for relevant Black/African American Family Engagement, including student data monitoring in connection to the work; collaborates between divisions to evaluate, reassess, and respond to data with the support of District teams.
- Promotes visibility and participation by representing Family and Community Engagement (FACE) at community-focused events, including fairs, info sessions, and expos; provides support during engagement and outreach initiatives for the department and amplifies engagement for existing programs; effectively encourages parents and community members to participate in community initiatives; and organizes and runs program events, coordinating logistics, including transportation, budget, food/snacks, recruitment, and volunteer supervision.
- Works closely with district teams to develop and implement a plan to better connect and engage with families and inform them about FACE programs and District-wide initiatives.
- Supports communications, as needed, which may include; grant writing, copywriting for internal or external newsletters, designing information materials, identifying and recognizing outstanding parent and community achievements with written and video stories.
- Works closely with the Denver Public Schools Foundation, the District, and partner organizations to enhance cross-promotion of campaigns and key messages; connects with the family and communities through press interviews and outreach and engagement events.
What You’ll Need:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Community Engagement, Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Liberal Arts, Restorative Practices, Conflict Resolution, or a comparable field preferred.
- At least three (3) years of demonstrated experience that includes event planning, writing, photography, and communications.
- Displays cultural competency of working with Black and African American Communities across the diaspora.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills, including experience with public speaking and/or on-air interviews with proven ability to both facilitate and participate in conversations with a variety of different audiences (student, teacher, business professional, parent, etc.).
- Experience managing outside vendors, project timelines, and budgets.
- Effectively handles multiple demands and competing deadlines.
- Ability to connect directly with community and families and meet them where they are.
- Works collaboratively with others on a team.
- Aptitude for variety and changing expectations and a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Google Suite and Gmail, including Docs, Sheets, and Slides; basic photography and graphic design skills with proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate events on weekends or evenings.
- Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
- Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
