Materials Manager
Report To: Plant Manager
Supervise: 1 Group Leader & 15-20 Material Handlers
Job Summary:
Manage the materials and inventory control functions. Provide support to production planning and purchasing on all material flow issues to meet production schedules and customer expectations. Manage subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. Ensure project and/or department milestones and goals are met. Support Environmental Safety and Health team in ensuring a safe working environment for employees. Coordinate with senior management and peers to ensure company meets its goals and targets and to support the successful, timely completion and/or implementation of critical projects or other objectives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and supervise receiving and warehousing operations, both internal and external.
- Coordinate material flow to and from external warehouse.
- Coordinate inbound shipments and deliveries with 3PL’s.
- Internal Material Flow: Stocking, Picking and Transit To & From Assembly.
- Inventory Control: Internal and External.
- Maintain high degree of FIFO (First In/First Out).
- Plan and coordinate Physical Inventories.
- Supervise, evaluate, and coach subordinates.
- Ensure staff is adequately and appropriately trained, including cross-training opportunities as appropriate and needed.
- Ensure staffing requirements are regularly reviewed and adjusted/maintained as warranted to support plant operations.
- Support EH&S Staff and all Safety guidelines and initiatives.
- Coordinate with Production Planning and Purchasing on Critical Material Issues such as lost/misplaced material and material shortages.
- Manage and maintain department equipment including fork trucks, handheld scanners, and tablets as well as staff’s access to company software.
- Support all Kaizen activities and projects.
- Monitor ECNs to ensure 100% compliance to and implementation of the documented changes.
- Ensure all areas under materials’ purview is kept clean and organized: 5S.
Education & Training:
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a field pertaining to Supply Chain Management.
- Six Sigma training with Green Belt certification preferable but not required.
Technical Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Experience in shipping and receiving.
- Experience with modes of shipping small packages: LTL, UPS, Fed Ex, etc.
- Experience with warehouse and inventory management.
- Familiarity with supply chain and inventory management systems.
- Understand forecasting and budgeting.
- Proficient in MS Office.
