At
ODA
, Laboratory Services provides analytical and scientific technical support to the inspection/service programs of the Oregon Department of Agriculture in the areas of pesticides chemistry, food/dairy chemistry, food/dairy microbiology, Feed/fertilizer chemistry and to Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission (OLCC) through the Cannabis Reference Laboratory (CRL). The analytical programs help ensure safety, quality and marketability of food and other agricultural products produced and processed in the state and elsewhere.

We have one unique Chemist 1(Analytical Chemist) position in our new Wilsonville lab. Read on below to learn more about each opportunity.
What you’ll be doing
- You will perform analyses of foods, fertilizers, and agricultural products to meet client’s needs.
- Extract or digest samples to prepare them for specific analysis.
- Identify and quantitate unique targets and process/reduce data.
- Utilize gas and liquid chromatographs with various detectors.
- Work in multiple program areas.
- Perform work to meet identified quality parameters.
- Maintain records and enter data in spreadsheets and databases

What we’re looking for:
- A bachelor's degree in chemistry.
Three additional years of pertinent experience performing chemical testing and procedures may substitute for the bachelor’s degree.
Requested Skills:
Beyond the minimum qualifications listed above we’re also looking for the following knowledge, skills, and abilities in applicants. You do not need to have all qualities listed below to qualify. Please ensure the skills you do have are listed in your application.
- Ability to adapt to changing workloads and analytical procedures as dictated by staffing and sample prioritization.
- Assists in achieving and maintaining ISO17025 laboratory accreditation through active participation in SOP writing/reviewing/updating and successful participation in performance sample programs, audits, and training.
- Ability to look for opportunities for process improvement.
- Experience performing chemical testing and procedures for various sample types and various tests.
