THIS POSITION IS GRANT FUNDED: This position is located in the Department of Behavioral Health (DBH)/ Adult Services Division. The incumbent serves as a Community Behavioral Health Specialist on the Project for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH) grant and functions as a responder to the needs of the District residents struggling with homelessness, mental health and addiction problems. The incumbent serves as a Community Behavioral Health Specialist and is responsible for performing a wide array of community based behavioral health services including outreach, engagement and supportive services, crisis management, and counseling for identified parties through intensive case coordination activities and collaboration with crisis response team (CRT), core service agency (CSA), and comprehensive psychiatric emergency program (CPEP) partners, service providers, housing providers and other community organizations. The incumbent is critical to bridging gaps and helping individuals in the program achieve stability, address obstacles to successful treatment and barriers to access of social services. The incumbent responsible for engaging individuals in the community who have been referred to the ICC program because of vulnerabilites such as homelessness, substance use, and mental illness in the community to promote service engagement.works as part of an interdisciplinary team to evaluate and help reduce barriers to successful program completion; assist with behavioral modeling as well as ongoing support to promote successful completion. Incumbent responds to community-based crisis incidents as directed and engages community members and stakeholder in behavioral health resource education.
Qualifications: As a basic requirement, all applicants must have successfully completed a four (4) year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelors or higher degree which involved major study in an academic field related to health or allied sciences. In addition to the basic requirements, applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience at least equivalent to the DS-09 level. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position to be filled which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position to be filled.

Work Environment: Some degree of hazard may be present in working with emotionally disturbed consumers and their families and caretakers. The ICC functions as an intensive care coordination team and as a result, assignments and locations can vary based on need.
Duration of Appointment: Term Appointment - Not-to-Exceed 13 Months
Tour of Duty: 8:15 am - 4:45 pm (Monday -Friday)
Collective Bargaining Unit: This position IS in the Collective Bargaining Unit represented by SED NUHHCE and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through an automatic payroll deduction.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: A person applying for a position in the Career Service, Educational Service, Management Supervisory Service, a line attorney position in the Legal Service (series 905), or an attorney position in the Excepted Service (series 905) who is a bona fide District resident AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION for the position may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present proof of a non-expired DC Driver’s License or Non-driver’s license and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
