This position is with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Marine Resources Program, located in Newport, Oregon.

What you will do:
- Work collaboratively in a team environment to implement studies and investigate economic impacts of marine policy and regulations affecting coastal fishing communities, communities of interest, and communities of place. Perform quantitative analysis of marine fishing data and interpret the results to inform the department's resource management decisions. Conduct economic research on the impacts of marine reserve and protected area implementation on ocean users, identified communities of interest and place, and the general public. With the Marine Resources Human Dimensions Project Leader, implement ODFW’s Oregon Marine Reserves Human Dimensions Monitoring Plan related to economic monitoring.
- Identify statistical techniques and model inputs to analyze and predict trends in commercial and recreational fishery landings. Track the overall impact of recreational and commercial fisheries on coastal communities using the latest Input-Output Model for Pacific Coast Fisheries (IO-PAC) response coefficients from the National Marine Fisheries Service. Lead survey efforts to acquire relevant data on commercial fishery market trends. Compile and write reports on the economic impact of Oregon’s commercial, recreational, and distant water fisheries. Verify the quality of data collection methods/sources, procedural steps, accuracy of results, and presentation of outcomes.
- Evaluate the fiscal and organizational impact of proposed rulemaking by the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission. Prepare fiscal and economic impact statements related to proposed new or amended legislation or administrative rules. Provide information and guidance to department leadership and staff regarding the impact of proposed rulemaking. Recommend changes to fiscal information reported by department program staff when necessary. Collect and analyze data and prepare reports of revenue to the department from commercial fishery ad valorem, commercial permits, and recreational angling licenses.

Working Conditions:
- This position works in a normal office working environment, using computer and other standard office equipment. Occasional lifting of boxes weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Work is completed under tight timelines and strict quality control expectations. Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function for this position.
- This position requires a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, and does not exceed forty hours in a workweek. Work exceeding forty hours per week requires prior approval by supervisor.
- Occasional travel is necessary.

We are seeking applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and have the following skills and experience:
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in economics or a related field and one year of experience doing economic research or econometric forecasting. An advanced degree in economics or a related field may substitute for the experience.
Requested Skills:
- Performing economic research and/or econometric forecasting
- Advanced economics and statistics training
- Using statistical/quantitative analysis and software to summarize, analyze, and present data
- Experience working with natural resource economics
- Writing technical reports
- Creating presentations and speaking in public
