Under general direction of the Printing Process and Operations Supervisor, the Printing Process and Operations Planner (PPOP) performs the full range of printing planning functions and works with clients to develop printing methods, layouts, work processes and provides consultations and/or recommendations on the full range of services that meets the client's specific printing needs and Office of State Printing (OSP) capabilities. The performance of the duties will be accomplished in accordance with the guidelines of the DGS, OSP operations manual directives of Government Code, California Code of Regulations, and State Administrative Manual.
This position may be downgraded to Printing Operations Assistant for recruitment purposes. If downgraded, duties will be adjusted accordingly.
Training and Development (T&D) assignments may be considered for this position. T&D assignments are temporary assignments made for the purposes of providing career advancement opportunities to prepare permanent civil service employees for future promotions into new occupational fields.
Temporary Authorization (TAU) – For applicants who have no State transfer or reinstatement eligibility, applications will be accepted for a TAU appointment. The maximum duration of a TAU appointment is 9 months or, will be terminated 60 days after the establishment of a list. This position may become permanent at a later date; however, the candidate selected for the TAU appointment must compete in the administered exam, pass the exam, and place within the top 3 ranks before a permanent appointment can be received. Applicants for TAU appointments must meet the minimum qualifications for the classification as noted in the class specification. A State application (STD. 678) with an original signature is required for all TAU hires.

Desirable Qualifications
Special Personal Characteristics:
- Knowledge of print production technology.
- Excellent mathematical skills and a working knowledge of printing industry measurement tools and processes.
- A full-working knowledge of all production units at OSP as well as the knowledge of tasks performed by private sector printers and suppliers.
- Knowledge of current advertising and marketing trends.
- Knowledge of computer programs including but not limited to: the Microsoft suite of programs, InDesign, PageMaker, Visio, Acrobat, PhotoShop and estimating, planning and scheduling software.
- Techniques related to advertising sales and customer service.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn state contracts; Legislative process and accounting practices.
- Customer Service experience.
- Communicate in a clear, concise manner, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently or work proficiently as a team member.
- Ability to work with a wide range of customers in State government and the private sector.
- Mediation skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with all levels of production staff.
