What are the responsibilities and job description for the Structural Engineer position at DES Architects + Engineers?
Description
The Structural Engineer will develop the structural design of buildings from inception to construction. This person will have the opportunity to provide technical expertise on a diverse range of projects including industrial, office, and education buildings.
- Understand and consider project objectives and their impact on the structural design approach.
- Formulate and communicate the structural design approach to clients and design team.
- Provide input for the staff performance reviews as requested.
- Lead and document internal and external meetings.
- Responsible for meeting the structural engineering design schedule and fee.
- Participate in marketing interviews and presentations.
- Advise the Project Manager of any potential additional services.
- Prepare complete and concise construction documents that comply with the program, intent, and budget.
- Prepare the structural engineering specification sections.
- Ongoing review and checking of the documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Provide input for the construction cost estimate.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Registered Structural Engineer with a minimum of eight years of structural engineering experience
- Experience producing structural designs and calculations for a wide variety of building and construction types
- Be proficient in both manual and computerized analysis methods
- Thorough understanding of structural engineering principles and their application in practice
- Strong interest in seismic engineering design
- Interest in both retrofit and new building design
- Experience with architect and owner contact
- Understanding of all phases of design and construction
- OSHPD and DSA experience desirable
- CAD and Revit experience desirable
- Experience with post-tensioned concrete desirable
- Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or equivalent
- Ability to work in a hybrid work environment
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without any restrictions or requirement of visa sponsorship now or in the future
