Position Title: Account Manager

Reports to: General Manager

Direct Reports: Event Technicians

Position: Full-time (30-hours), Non-Exempt

Location: Pleasant Hill Office

Position Summary

Desired Effect is a full-service theatrical production company based in Pleasant Hill, CA offering event equipment rental, design, and operation. We have a broad range of clients throughout the Bay Area including some of the area's largest non-profit theatres and serve audio, lighting, video, and special effects needs. We produce hundreds of events each year, in a fast paced environment with a team of fun, kind, and quirky theatre people.

We are seeking a person to join our Production team. Together with the other Project Managers, this individual will be in charge of the overall planning and execution of client events from first inquiry to final sale. They will act as the primary liaison between the client and the rest of the company throughout the entirety of the production process.

This individual will also prepare pre- and post-operation reports to keep the event technicians and company management informed of planned activities and outcomes.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting Rate: Part Time, $26-30/hr

Primary Responsibilities

Event Production

  • Respond to a high volume of phone, slack and email questions from clients and employees
  • Work with Design Team and Event Technicians to produce your client’s events
  • Submit proposals, quotes and contracts to clients and revise as needed
  • Coach less experienced clients through the event planning process
  • Perform site visits/walkthroughs with clients and DE team
  • Issue event budgets, and invoice clients at appropriate intervals

Client Development

  • Build ongoing relationships with clients, becoming their go-to person for gear and events
  • Convert one time clients to returning clients
  • Develop new clients in a variety of fields (corporate, theater, one offs, etc.)
  • Meet monthly goals for department sales/rentals
  • Collaborate with marketing team in the creation of marketing plans to generate new leads

Internal Planning / Communication

  • Support Design Team and Event Technicians on site as needed
  • Create plans, paperwork, drawings, bid sheets, etc
  • Create event reports prior to each event so field technicians are informed and prepared
  • Participate in post event follow up including billing and post-mortem

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent time management skills, able to concentrate on multiple events being planned simultaneously
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Superior managerial and diplomacy skills.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Event work occasionally requires long days, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be a team player
  • Fun, creative, quirky, kind people are a huge plus!

Experience and Education Minimum

A successful candidate for this role would have of the following:

  • Two years of Events Management/Project Management/Production Management equivalent
  • Two years prior sales/customer account management experience
  • Associate’s Degree, CMEP or related technical training or certification
  • Knowledgeable about our products (lighting, sound, video and special effects equipment)Prior sales/customer account management experience

Experience and Education Preferred

  • BA in Theater, Theatre Tech, Communications, Marketing or Hospitality at an accredited university/program
  • Prior sales/customer account management experience
  • Experience with Live Theater, Event Production, Stage Management or Design
  • Experience with Audio, lighting, video or sound equipment
  • Experience with our software (Current RMS, ERPNext, Slack, macOS. Trello, G-Suite) is a plus

Background Check

The job may require working in a school environment. Background checks may be required; the client will cover the cost, or Desired Effect will reimburse you. The majority of this position is an office job where the employee is required to sit or stand at a desk working on a computer for prolonged periods and must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. When on-site at events, the employee would need to navigate partially set up locations, often having stairs, ladders or platforms, and the employee is occasionally required to help handle equipment up to 75lbs as necessitated by the event/team. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the Events Manager job.
