What are the responsibilities and job description for the Jr. Buyer position at Detex Corp?
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Include but are not limited to:
- Consults with user departments on purchases and selects vendor/suppliers to order commodities, materials, and services that best meet the requirements of the organization.
- Reviews and analyzes inventory levels, materials requirement planning, and marketing projected requirements to anticipate and determine manufacturing needs.
- Reviews commodities and equipment specifications and prepares detailed specifications for solicitation of bids.
- Maintains effective working relationships internally and externally.
- Maintains constant communications with manufacturing, quality assurance, marketing, and engineering staff to coordinate purchasing needs for the production of products.
- Obtains product and price information from vendors and prepares purchase requisitions.
- Reviews opportunities for new supply sources and suitability of materials offered.
- Reviews costs, schedules, timeliness of delivery, and conformance to specifications to provide the best value for the dollar spent.
- Provides complex and technical information relating to the purchase of various manufacturing components, materials, supplies, equipment, and/or services.
- Prepares and maintains various purchasing logs and reports.
- Maintains vendor and provider contact list and list of materials acquired per vendor.
- Support cross-departmental functions as required to meet customer needs.
- Supports cross-training staff and new hires.
- Follows established procedures, work instructions, and operational controls implemented by the company to comply with all applicable legal requirements.
- Follows safe working practices and properly wears personal protective equipment.
- Performs other duties as directed.
Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Industrial Technology or a related field and 3 years’ experience in purchasing electro-mechanical assembly components with emphasis on casting, stampings, and powdered metal components; or an equivalent combination of education and/or related experience. International purchasing experience, Production and Inventory Management Certification (CPIM), and Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) certification preferred.
- Knowledge of and skill in purchasing methods and procedures, laws, and regulations.
- Knowledge of local and national market practices and pricing methods.
- Knowledge of material receiving and invoicing procedures.
- Ability to interpret information and draw specifications for a variety of components and commodities.
- Ability to evaluate the financial, production, and delivery capability of potential bidders and/or vendors.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
- Skills in effectively listening and communicating verbally and in writing.
- Strong communication skills and ability to remain calm and professional in all circumstances and ability to use tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to compile and maintain records, logs, and organize reports.
- Ability to operate office equipment; computers, phones, scanners, etc.…
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and purchasing and recordkeeping software.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally.
- Be willing to work weekend hours, and overtime as required.
- Bilingual: English/Spanish, preferred.
