What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mackinac County Outreach Advocate position at Diane Peppler Resource Center?
JOB DESCRIPTION: OUTREACH WORKER (Victim Advocate) – MACKINAC COUNTY
- Provide confidential crisis and advocacy service to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking in Mackinac County, including Mackinac Island.
- Assist clients with medical and legal advocacy, i.e. support during medical treatment, support and information regarding court proceedings.
- Facilitate a support group for survivors of domestic violence/sexual assault.
- Create and maintain interagency collaboration in Mackinac County, to allow for an enrichment of client services and referrals.
- Maintain networking systems between the law enforcement agencies and Prosecutor’s office in each county, to provide immediate client intervention.
- Enhance agency awareness within each county by providing community education.
- Case management of client services and maintains client case files
- Implement recruiting and screening of volunteers for Mackinac County.
- Assist Executive Director and other staff members with any other duties relative to the efficient operation or the program and be directly responsible to the Executive Director.
- Will attend ongoing training annually in the area of DV/SA.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field, or commensurate experience. Master’s Degree preferred
Salary Range
$16.00/hr - $20.00/hr.
Special Qualification
- An awareness and working knowledge of the judicial system, policies and laws related to domestic violence.
- Must be sensitive toward the domestic violence and sexual assault problems and be willing to have ongoing training in these areas.
- Must have positive attitude and display a willingness to serve domestic violence and sexual assault victims with dedication and interest.
- Must be able to maintain the mental stability and physical ability to perform duties.
- Must be capable of working effectively both independently and with others within the agency.
- Must possess ability to communicate with wide range of individuals with appropriate vocabulary and grammatical skills.
- Must be able to maintain healthy boundaries and work/life balance.
- Must possess the ability to meet and interact easily with individual groups outside the agency.
