Job Overview

The Certified Athletic Trainer will be responsible for preventing, assessing, and treating injuries for student-athletes across all school-sponsored sports programs. This position will work directly under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer and collaborate closely with a Physical Therapist and the Director of Rehabilitation & Medicine to ensure comprehensive, high-quality care for all student-athletes.

The Athletic Trainer will be an integral member of the sports medicine and performance team, coordinating with coaches, school nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to promote athlete safety, injury prevention, and optimal return-to-play outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site athletic training services at practices and home athletic events under the guidance of the Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Evaluate, assess, and assist in diagnosing athletic injuries and develop appropriate treatment and rehabilitation plans in collaboration with the Physical Therapist and Director of Rehabilitation & Medicine.
  • Implement evidence-based injury prevention strategies, including strength and conditioning principles and proper equipment use.
  • Assist with rehabilitation progressions and return-to-play protocols under medical and supervisory direction.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress.
  • Coordinate care with physicians and other healthcare providers and assist with referrals when necessary.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and execution of Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for all athletic venues.
  • Educate and advise coaches, athletes, and parents on injury prevention, treatment plans, and safe participation in sports.
  • Monitor, maintain, and inventory athletic training room supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and national regulations governing athletic health and safety.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Current NATA-BOC certification.
  • State licensure or certification as required by law.
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
  • Previous experience in a high school or educational athletic setting preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary sports medicine team.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Work Environment

  • Frequent standing, walking, and physical activity.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions during athletic events.
