Reporting to the Estimating Manager, this role helps to create project estimates for our custom design-fabrication projects. This position possesses a background in a construction, manufacturing, or engineering environment, with estimating experience preferred. This position is equipped with the ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities, strong communication skills and be willing to collaborate with multiple internal departments.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS may include but are not limited to:

• Reads and understands conceptual/design decks, blueprints, architectural drawings, engineering drawings, project specifications and related documents
• Reviews detailed bid specification packages, Terms and Conditions, and other project documentation to ensure compliance to customer requirements
• Applies a basic understanding of common building codes, electrical listings, regulations, and other industry standards to ensure that both DI and the customer are protected from unforeseen issues and costs
• Asks questions of senior team members to build knowledge about issues such as transportation costs and risks, relevant construction and project costs, local taxes, etc. to better ensure that both DI and the customer are protected from unforeseen issues and costs
• Partners with Supply Chain to identify and contact qualified vendors and sub-contract partners to determine relevance, price, and availability to provide whatever project requirements will not be handled in-house
• Enters data into and generates reports from operating systems, estimating templates and databases as necessary
• Compiles and documents detailed time and material cost estimates for fabricated elements using a combination of historic data, experience, and input from relevant team members
• Communicates (both verbally and in writing) the results of estimating data to internal and external team in a visible and transparent format
• Works with internal teams to help better understand the details of feasibility and cost effectiveness associated with elements as designed and suggesting other options as needed
• Manages a calendar of project priorities and deadlines maintaining visibility to current status

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Broad understanding of custom engineering and fabrication principles as well as familiarity with common materials such as aluminum, acrylic, wood, steel etc. and application
• Ability to translate ambiguous direction into detailed estimates, making and documenting assumptions as necessary
• Communicates clearly and effectively with all types of people such as customers, designers, project managers, engineers, production staff, etc.
• Maintains a helpful and approachable attitude even in high pressure situations
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, notably Microsoft Excel and display adaptability in learning the use of company specific software
• Applies a customer-focused approach to innovation and problem solving

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Finance, or similar program
• 2 years of experience in a construction, manufacturing, signage, or engineering environment; experience with estimating is required

• Employee must be able to talk and hear

While performing the duties of this job, employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.

This is a salaried (exempt) position.
