What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at Distributed Solar Development?
We're looking for a high energy, detail-oriented and hands-on individual to join the accounting team as a Senior Accountant. This is a brand-new role created to support the company's growth. This role is based out of our New York Headquarters, is a hybrid position and will be reporting to the Assistant Controller.
Essential Responsibilities
- Prepare period-ending (monthly/quarterly) journal entries and supporting reconciliations
- Performs analytical review fluxes as required, including researching variances between actuals and budget
- Support review of company transactions and documentation of accounting conclusions
- Support annual audits and interact with external auditors as necessary
- Own the design and maintenance of controls over reporting of revenue and leases
- Maintain leasing schedules and perform monthly/quarterly journal entries
- Responsible for the accounts receivable and revenue function as a whole including the direct oversight of one accounts receivable analyst
- Oversee the billings and collections of the company with the assistance of the accounts receivable analyst
- Assisting in forecasting activities for revenue, billings and collections
- Conduct frequent ad hoc reporting and analysis
- Familiarity with project accounting and bookkeeping tasks such as journal entries in the ERP system
- Partner with Project Finance team with the management, assessment and informational reporting requests of our community solar aggregators and utilities
- Assist Project Finance with accurate projections and collection of funds from incentive programs
- Work cross-functionally with key internal business partners, such as other members in accounting, asset management, project finance and business systems on ongoing issues and/or initiatives to help drive to conclusion
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Accounting (CPA is a plus)
- Public & Private accounting background
- Previous experience in renewable energy industry is a plus
- Proficient in MS Excel & experience working with large volumes of data inclusive but not limited to data tagging and filtering, XLOOKUP, SUMIF(s) and Pivots tables
- Strong understanding of ERP and CRM systems (NetSuite, Salesforce)
- Working knowledge of US GAAP and ASC 606 & ASC 842
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communication, with a capacity to articulate issues and synthesize accounting concepts into concise and informative memos
- Acute attention to detail and well-developed organization and time management skills
- Must be self-motivated, flexible, deadline-oriented and able to complete tasks with minimal supervision
- Ability to adapt quickly in a rapidly scaling, dynamic environment, and align well with DSD’s core values
