What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Peer Support Specialist position at Dixon Social Interactive Services, Inc?
Certified Support Specialist will provide Recovery Coaching to members struggling with mental health and substance use disorders. The CPSS will function as a role model to peers; exhibit competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills; serve as a member advocate; provide member information and peer support for members in outpatient settings; and assist with effective communication, conflict-resolution, and crisis intervention skill development. The CPSS performs a wide range of tasks to assist adult peers with regaining independence within the community and gaining mastery over their own recovery process. They may assist the member in identifying personal and environmental obstacles to recovery, link the recovering person to the recovery community, and serve as a personal guide and mentor in the management of personal and family recovery. A Peer Support Specialist does not serve the role of sponsor. A Peer Support Specialist models competency in resiliency and recovery and ongoing coping skills. Peer Support Specialist work closely with the member treatment team and when needed, works with member's family and community, as well.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide quality of care to patients in terms of compliance with expectations of the organization, and all licensing and credentialing boards to ensure the effectiveness of peer support and counseling services.
- Conduct individual and group counseling support services as needed to assist members with meeting requirements of treatment enrollment and treatment plan goal attainment.
- Produce clear and concise documentation for all support and counseling services rendered.
- Provide appropriate referrals to members in need.
- Motivate members for change, recovery process, coping skill development, and re-acclimating lives to ensure healthy, safe, and productive living. Provides crisis intervention as needed.
- Provide supports to all members of the psychosocial rehab program by facilitating groups, leading community integration outings, and individual supports as needed.
- Provide education to teach the members about mental illness and appropriate medication to avoid complications and relapse.
- Provide opportunities to learn and use independent living skills.
- Enhance social and interpersonal skills within a supportive and normalizing program structure and environment according to licensing and Medicaid guidelines.
- Transport individuals to and from group and on community outings,
- Conduct educational groups, and responding to medical or behavioral emergencies using agency-approved techniques.
- Keep clear legal and ethical boundaries with members, staff, and community resources and supports.
- Interacts and relates well with peers and other professionals to assure comprehensive and quality care for the members.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and write English. Ability to generate clinical documentation of interventions and support services rendered to members in keeping with regulations and requirements of credentialing and auditing bodies.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: Peer Support Specialist certification (Preferred), CPR/First Aid certification, NCI Plus, Client Rights & Confidentiality ,HIPPA, Blood Borne Pathogens, and HIV/AIDS education.
Qualification Requirements
- Obtained a High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- At least 1- 2 years of experience working with Mental health/Substance Abuse population
- NC Certified Peer Support Specialist (required)
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Current Auto insurance
- Ability to submit to background check and drug screen
- Minimum of 2 years consecutive recovery
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of 12 Core Functions
