About the Opportunity
DMI Inc is looking for a Senior Engineer
This candidate will be responsible for the following:
Self motivated and independent Linux administration
- Responsible for the day-to-day performance of the Managed Service Provider responsible for the quality and reliability of agency's Linux Server systems.
- Provides engineering direction to Managed Service Provider operating Linux Servers for changes in agency's operating procedures and/or the delivery of new Linux based IT projects.
- Interacts and collaborates closely with all Infrastructure support teams and Managed Service providers for Linux-related server issues.
- Work as Managed Service Provider on a daily basis to ensure that the quality and performance of the Linux Server systems meet agency business needs.
- Worked as Managed Service Provider using Linux platforms to ensure they have the tools and support to be successful.
- Acts as an escalation point for issues and incidents related to the Linux environment.
- Responsible for the quality of vendor implementations and adherence to agency's ITS architecture standards.
- Responsible for definition of Linux Server systems related to infrastructure projects.
- Acquires and maintains a solid understanding of the structure, configuration, capacity, and usage of the agency Linux Server environment.
- Participates in and monitors the change management requests related to the Linux environment.
- Works extensively with the Managed Service providers to review all major incidents related to Linux systems, identify root cause for severe and/or recurring incidents, and develops problem resolution plans to prevent these incidents from recurring.
- Reviews the Linux performance metrics and reports on provided by the Managed Service Providers. Identifies issues and recommends remediation plans.
- Works with the managed service providers to establish overall inventory of hardware and software in the Linux environment. Ensures the inventory is kept current.
- Reviews and verify maintenance contracts related to agency's Linux platforms to ensure they match the agency's current inventory and have the appropriate support levels.
- Assists agency managers and directors to develop short term (30-90 day) Linux capacity plans.
- Works closely with Project Managers and Project teams to ensure efficiency and timely milestone completions of tasks related to the Linux environment.
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a related technical field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5 years of diverse work experience in IT, and specifically as it relates to Linux on x86 platforms, storage, networking, Active Directory, and messaging.
- Extensive knowledge in Linux OS and Linux Server-based applications and Linux x86 hardware systems.
- Strong understanding of the tools and processes used in managing Linus OS platforms.
- Work experience in a managed services IT environment is preferred.
- Experience in vendor interaction and management.
- Strong communication skills, analytical ability, decisiveness, judgment, and the ability to work effectively with clients, IT management, staff and vendors.
- Strong automation skills. Ansible preferred.
- Strong SSSD and Satellite knowledge

Location: DC Metro area: 2nd Shift 3pm EST to 11pm EST with Rotating On call schedule.
