Summary
Our client seeks a seasoned Senior Systems Engineer to lead on-premises infrastructure and elevate security maturity. This role is fully focused on datacenter operations—not cloud-first—but will integrate and support hybrid components where needed. Key responsibilities include SIEM, log integration, backup security, security dashboards, and disaster readiness. Oil & Gas industry experience is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities

- Architect, deploy, and maintain on-premises servers, storage, and virtualization (Nutanix) to ensure availability and performance.
- Assist with the administration and secure networking infrastructure: Cisco Nexus/Catalyst, wireless, Palo Alto firewalls (NGFW), routing, VLANs, and VPN connectivity.
- Design and maintain security dashboards to provide visibility into organizational compliance posture, vulnerability exposure, system performance, and security events.
- Aggregate and integrate log data from enterprise infrastructure—including servers, network devices, firewalls, and backup systems—into centralized SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk, ELK, Sumo Logic, Datadog).
- Implement and support preventative security controls, including vulnerability scanning, system hardening, patch management, firewall administration, and access control enforcement in coordination with security operations and IT teams.
- Perform routine log analysis and audit activities to identify anomalies, potential threats, or policy violations, and ensure alignment with security and compliance standards. Mentor junior staff, provide technical escalation support, and ensure knowledge transfer.
- Continuously identify operational and security risks, proposing and implementing mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with IT leadership to align infrastructure and security strategies with business goals.

- Experienced in implementing and managing preventative controls—vulnerability scanning, patching, hardening, firewall rules, and access controls—aligned with security and compliance standards.
- Skilled in log analysis, incident detection, risk identification, and providing technical leadership and mentorship within security operations teams.
- Experience with backup/restore, disaster recovery testing, and restoration procedures (Cohesity preferred, also considering Rubrik).
