General Summary:
Internal Audit Managers perform more complex and larger-scale financial, operational/store, and IT audits with limited oversight. Planning, research, testing, analyzing, communicating and reporting are the primary functions performed in the position. Communication, analytical skills, project management skills, leadership skills, and the ability to adapt rapidly to changing circumstances are essential to the position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Complete audits in accordance with the departmental audit plan. Establish and communicate audit scope and resource needs planning. Plan researching, testing, analyzing, and reporting and follow up for audits. Identify areas in which the company has opportunities to improve. Effectively communicate audit results and recommendations to the appropriate management and develop action plans in coordination with the department to implement reforms. Follow up with department representatives and management to determine improvement and to formulate action plans. Schedule auditing tasks to minimize department disruptions while maintaining audit integrity.
- Supervise the internal auditors including daily task supervision and conducting performance reviews. Assess resource needs and assignments and ensure that assigned auditors are trained and developed to meet company challenges. Develop and maintain semi-annual audit project management metrics and communicate progress to Internal Audit management bi-weekly.
- May assist in formulating the semi-annual audit plan and in reporting to the Board of Directors on a regular basis.
- Maintain good communication lines with other areas of the company. Resolve conflicts and opinion differences in effective and productive manners.
- Maintain professional certifications and enhance personal and professional skills by completing the necessary continuing education.
- Be able to travel when necessary.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to take ownership of, drive, track, and complete complex and large-scale audit projects.
- Ability to communicate project progress to Internal Audit management bi-weekly.
- Ability to supervise the work of others to reach audit milestone goals, including assigning work and providing assistance to less experienced auditors.
- Ability to effectively communicate with executive management.
- Ability to understand Dollar General’s risk environment and determine what processes pose the most risk to the Company.
- Ability to represent the Internal Audit department with a high level of professionalism and responsibility.
- Ability to analyze financial, accounting, and IT practices or collected information, draw conclusions, and identify opportunities for improvement.
- General knowledge of company operations in addition to specific knowledge of certain areas of concentration particularly as it may relate to the retail industry.
- Ability to recommend solutions and work with management to affect positive change rather than simply report findings.
- Good organization and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to build respectful department relationships.
- Ability to adapt rapidly to changing circumstances and priorities.
- Experience with MS Office applications and other data analysis tools.

Work Experience and/or Education:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business management. Five or more years of progressive auditing experience including financial auditing, process improvement assessments, and compliance related projects. Experience should include both supervisory and project management knowledge. CIA and/or CPA certification is required. Additional education at the Masters level is preferred.
