Indirect Tax Compliance Accountant
Summary of Position (Job Purpose)
The Indirect Tax Compliance Accountant will support the indirect tax compliance function in the US and Canada. This individual will be responsible for compiling indirect tax data and ensuring timely reporting for sales and use tax, unclaimed property filings, bag fees and other miscellaneous taxes. The Tax Compliance Accountant will ensure the accuracy of the information provided to our service providers in order to prepare our indirect tax filings accurately and efficiently.

The Indirect Tax Compliance Accountant will support the indirect tax compliance function in the US and Canada. This individual will be responsible for compiling indirect tax data and ensuring timely reporting for sales and use tax, unclaimed property filings, bag fees and other miscellaneous taxes. The Tax Compliance Accountant will ensure the accuracy of the information provided to our service providers in order to prepare our indirect tax filings accurately and efficiently.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain proficiency in state and local tax laws using tax research software.
- Research complex state and local tax laws, and track, analyze and communicate impacts of proposed tax law changes to Indirect Tax leadership. Provide new SKU research and state taxability analysis to ensure accurate taxation within the POS systems.
- Compile source data for monthly sales/use tax returns and reconcile to the general ledger for all legal entities (50 states and Canada.)
- Review compliance payments and reconcile to payable accounts, ensuring all liabilities are paid accurately.
- Provide tax analysis for the indirect tax forecasting.
- Determine tax savings and recommend strategies to improve profits.
- Support projects and implement new processes and controls in response to changes in the business environment, such as new tax requirements, changes in technology standards, and internal process changes.
- Develop strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of tools, systems, and processes to highlight opportunities for improvement and support projects that will yield risk mitigation and efficiency through optimization and automation. The individual will be responsible for mitigating risk related to $100,000,000 in monthly sales tax remittances.
- BA or BS degree is required in Accounting or Finance
- 1-2 years Indirect Tax experience, corporate or equivalent public accounting experience
- Strong organizational abilities and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver results
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Self-motivated, engaged by a fast-paced environment and handling challenges and tight deadlines with ease
- Strong PC skills including MS Office
- Vertex and OneSource experience preferred
- CPA, CMA or CMI candidate desired
- Experience with tax compliance software desired
- Experience with large business data sets
