SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, provide security and protection for students and vehicles in student parking lot.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES:
Valid Texas Class “C” driver’s license
Security guard training or certification preferred
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- General knowledge of criminal investigation, police report writing and criminal laws
- Training in subduing offenders, including the use of handcuffs
- Ability to use two-way radio, handcuffs, alarm systems, fire extinguishers, and/or security equipment
- Ability to record information
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Student Management
- Monitor student behavior and enforce school rules related to student conduct, vehicle operation, and parking.
- Resolve conflict or confrontation between students and report disturbances to principal or assistant principal.
- Control traffic and parking on campus grounds.
Security and Parking
- Register student vehicles and maintain accurate records of registration.
- Work cooperatively with office personnel to inform students of problems with vehicles (i.e., improperly parked, lights on, etc.)
- Assist law enforcement personnel as needed.
- Notify police, fire department, or other appropriate authority of any situation requiring immediate attention.
- Give directions or act as a guide to authorized visitors.

- Maintain confidentiality.
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.
- Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work, meetings, and appointments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
- Subject to reassignment as determined by the Chief of Police or Superintendent
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in the supervision of students.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, students, parents, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, diagram or schedule form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.
While performing the duties of this job, continuous walking, standing, and/or climbing is required. The employee must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Specific hearing and visual requirements are included. The employee must be able to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Work outdoors in varying conditions. Moderate to heavy lifting and carrying is required.
The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position requires working outdoors in varying climate conditions and the employee is exposed to extreme temperatures and inclement weather and to vehicle exhaust. The employee may be subject to extreme physical acts of others (i.e., restraining students involved in altercations)
