Home Visitor-Early Head Start - (JOHNSON) Hannibal, MO
Starting Salary: $14.04 with HS or Associate Degree $15.51 with BA/BS
Schedule: 40 hours / 49 weeks
JOB SUMMARY:
Empowers families through the weekly educational activities and socializations that support the parent as their child’s first and most important teacher. Assists families to increase self-reliance through access to information, referrals to available resources, and learn to advocate for their child and family. Provides positive guidance to promote the physical, intellectual, social and emotional development of the family.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Builds positive relationships with families that encourages engagement in their child’s learning. Assists parents in understanding their role in their child’s development.
- Establishes a safe and healthy environment at socializations for children that provides parents and children with opportunities for supervised exploration that supports children’s safety and learning.
- Assists parents to create and assess developmentally appropriate activities, promoting the advancement of physical and intellectual competency within the child’s capabilities, supporting and promoting a positive self-image.
- Through interaction and example, supports and promotes educational & social-emotional growth that meets child outcome goals, and recognizes the individual strengths of each child.
- Supports and promotes the current curriculums (educational, social, emotional, parenting curriculums, etc.) used by the program.
- Assist families to identify strengths, interests, and needs that promotes the growth and development of their families. Empowers families to plan and achieve self-reliance through family partnership agreements.
- Ensure nutrition and self-care practices are incorporated into home visits and socialization routines for children to develop healthy habits.
- Responsible for recruitment, accurately determining eligibility, timely acceptance, & enrollment, and weekly visit attendance.
- Ensures all mandatory documents are in place per established timelines, all computer entries are made, and proper follow-up with families, providers, etc. is completed as appropriate.
- Ensures that appropriate screenings and follow-ups are completed for each child within designated time frames. Works with the family to make referrals to appropriate agency/provider to ensure each child’s individual needs are being met.
- Maintains on-going communication with staff, supervisors, parents, and providers.
- Maintains confidentiality in all matters relating to children, families, and staff pursuant to the program’s confidentiality standards.
- Embodies the Mission of the program by participating in ongoing professional development: trainings, conferences, courses, workshops, etc.
- Hot-lines suspected cases of child abuse/neglect, following written procedures as a mandated
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in recruiting parent and community volunteers for the Head Start program.
- Assists with general operations of the center with regards to organization of work areas, answering phones, general cleanliness, etc.
- References, knows and understands the Douglass Community Services personnel policies and procedures.
EDUCATION, SKILLS & OTHER:
A High school diploma or GED equivalency is required; a college degree in Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Child & Family Development, or a related social science area is preferred. One to three years of experience delivering case management services and/or teaching child development and parenting skills to parents/guardians is highly recommended. Must have access to a reliable vehicle for home visits and be willing to obtain a Home Visitor CDA within 9 months of hire. Must successfully pass the DRDP Reliability Certification within 6 months of hire. Must obtain FDC credentialing during the first cohort offered following completion of Home Visitor CDA. The ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written), enjoy interacting with young children and families in their home, and maintain confidentiality are required. Training and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid and a Class E driver’s license are additional requirements. This position requires the skills to complete word processing and data entry on a computer. Additionally, the ability to take initiative, make independent judgments, promote teamwork, and maintain confidentiality are required to successfully fulfill this job’s responsibilities.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
Our programs serve infants, toddlers and preschoolers’ with varying degrees of physical abilities. This position may require lifting/carrying up to 40 lbs., walking, climbing, kneeling, crawling, bending/stooping, sitting, standing, driving, and prolonged visual concentration.
